As in many religions down the line the Mormons had way more women than men. At the time of Joseph Smith a woman in America couldnt hold land, vote, have a bank account(except with husband) and a man could beat them if he chose as the police thought what happened in a mans house was his business. So the Mormons had more than one wife all of whom were Mormons and beleived the same who are we to say its wrong if it helped them to survive the hardships they faced. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you criticize.

Mormons don't generally claim to be Christian, for one thing, as far as I know. (I attended a Mormon church for 6 or 8 years, but never officially joined.) For another, having multiple wives was Biblically only forbidden to ministers. In Paul's writings to Timothy and others, he said that a pastor (or elder or bishop, depending on your translation) must be the husband of only one wife. Truly, the practice of having several wives was not against Biblical teaching. It is against the laws of this country, so I wouldn't advise it. The modern LDS Church no longer condones the practice, by the way. They did historically, but not today.
There are many of our Western customs that we think are Christian, but they aren't. They have their roots in tradition, not in the Bible.

They don't teach that anymore. It seems the Holy Spirit changed His mind about what constitutes truth when they started getting arrested for violations of state law. In any case Mormons are most certainly not Christian. What they teach about Jesus Christ is completely incompatible with the most fundamental tenets of Christianity. Just including the name of Jesus in your bizarre theology doesn't make someone a Christian. Besides, Mormonism is a polytheistic religion while Christianity is monotheistic.

If you can read other than Braille, check Deuteronomy 21:15 and you will "see" where the Bible permits more then one wife and take a look at Genesis 16:3 and "see" Hagar described as Abraham's wife No. 2.

because multiple wives is SCRIPTURAL but so is a lot of other stuff like owning slaves and stoning disobediant children
If everyone worried about THEIR OWN relationship with their own God instead of EVERY ONE ELSE'S --the world would be a better place
just my opinion.
