God's standard written in the Bible for sexual purity is found in Ephesians 5:3 "But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people." Sounds exhausting, doesn't it? But if you're feeling like the bar is set hopelessly high, don't give up. That's exactly what you should be feeling. God's sets that standard not for the sake of strictness but for the purpose that He loves us. To allow us to turn towards His standard of holiness, His source of power to change, and His motive for fighting against the sin of lust in our daily lives (yes, lust is a sin). This standard applies no matter how culture, society, or even some christian's say on the subject of lust. Sin is sin no matter how much or little a person indulges in it.

I partially agree with that opening statement about sex not being the problem. If sex is motivated purely by lust with no feeling or intimacy then lust becomes the problematic instigator and sex is the resulting perversion of the mind and body. Lust is the real problem, not so much the sex.

If lust is a sin then why did "God" make men and women feel this kind of attraction to one another? The fact is that lust is nothing more than a biological reaction - "hormones." It's there so that people will procreate. Where the issue comes in is when people act on "lust" inappropriately, like cheating on their spouses. There is nothing wrong with finding someone desirable and wanting to have sex with that person. It's natural and two consenting adults can do what they want.

Actually, the Bible says it's perfectly fine, if not highly desirable to lust after your own wife and you should understand that Jesus was the end of the law of Moses. In that perspective, please reconsider the word 'lust':

Proverbs 5:15~19

"15 Drink water out of your own cistern, running water out of your own well.

16 Should your springs overflow in the streets, streams of water in the public squares?

17 Let them be for yourself alone, not for strangers with you.

18 Let your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.

19 A loving doe and a graceful deer- let her breasts satisfy you at all times. Be captivated always with her love."

Your are right but I think you would be better off trying to help people understand how to receive and grow in God's word. If you are having a problem with lust ask God for forgiveness and strength to overcome this problem. Christians are not perfect just realize that when we sin we admit it and ask to be forgiven.

It sounds like you have everything all figured out. But, I feel that Lust is a feeling. If it cannot be controlled, why should it be a sin if not acted upon? We can not control who we have lust for,it just happens.

Lust is not the problem. Manipulation through guilt is. It is physically impossible to hurt a person, by having sex with them, as long as both of you are consenting adults, and REALLY consenting, not just consenting as in 'he wants, she lets him, to avoid arguing'. So enjoy it. It's good for you. And it keeps you from neuroses.

But, sex out of wedlock IS a problem.

Also, this is why we need God's grace. Like you said, He sets the bar higher than we can expect of ourselves, or higher than He even expects of us. We're going to screw up. The solution is to acknowledge God, accept his grace, and be made righteous.
