There are a few things you can do that you probably already have on hand. I have difficulty with my sinuses at times as well and no one thing works ALL the time, but I have found that alternating them usually does the trick. For starters, use a heating pad or a hot pack on your forehead, eyes and nose, (if you use a heating pad, use the LOWEST setting and place a towel over it so as not to burn the face). Something else you can do is place a bowl of water in the microwave and cook just until boiling, add a tablespoon of Vicks vapo-rub to the water and hang your head over the bowl with a towel draped over your head so as to breathe in all the vapors. Stand near a hot shower and breathe in the steam for a few minutes. Hot tea with honey, any flavor will do, but peppermint seems to work best for me. Try to blow your nose often, never sniffle. These are just some of the things I do. Hope that helps.

Do you know WHY his sinuses are blocked? Treating the symptoms ie: the blockage is one thing but looking to find the cause is the other way to go. Seeing a good Osteopath or cranial Osteopath might be a good starting point as any neck or cranial mechanics that are restricted will effectively reduce the ability for the sinuses to drain properly. Even if it's just as the result of a severe cold a good Osteopath will be able to help drainage and stimulate lymphatic flow (part of your immune system) to help clear the infection. Good luck!

With a cool mist vapourizer. If funds are low to invest in one, try a steaming pot of water, with some Vick's vapour rub (couple of tbsp) in it. Drape a towel over your head, lean into the steaming mix, breathe deeply. The towel will make kind of an enclosure for the steam to stay around your head area. Do go see the Doctor though if you don't get any relief in a couple of days because you could have a sinus infection and the only thing that will clear it is an antibiotic. If you are always blowing your nose and you experience a lot of pressure and pain, a sinus infection is a real possibility.

My mother is very "old school" & has a home remedy for EVERYTHING!! She would tell you to use saline nasal spray (salt water spray). It costs approx. $3.00, and if you don't have $3.00 you can make your own at home! Mix warm water with a pinch or two of salt in a cup. Lay with your legs up over the back of the couch, head draped over the seat. While you are basically upside down, put two or three drops of the salt water up each nostril. Stay upside down & allow salt water to remain in nostrils. After a few minutes sit upright. You will feel your sinuses drain immediately. FYI - have a drink handy as a chaser because the salt water & nasal stuffage draining down your throat is disgusting!

You may need to do this a few times for maximum relief, but it does work.

Thanks Mom!!

Take a warm shower, the steam will loosen the mucus.
Blow your nose after said shower.
If you have time to sit around, have a cup of steaming hot water in it (caution:the cup will be hot) wait a while and try blowing your nose.
It takes me 2 weeks to rid all of it with this method.

fill your bathroom sink with hot water and breathe it in. Covering head with a towel increases the amount of steam you inhale.

It should loosen up your head in no time!
