There is a legal requirement to declare lead content in dishes and they should only be used as decoration not for food. Lead leaches into foods placed in such dishes and there is no safe amount.

Some imports slip through the cracks and may have lead and not be labelled, so some pottery should be tested if you plan to put food or drink in it.

No they are not safe to use. Old pewter is the most popular type of material that isn't good and most people know of pewter it contains lead. That is why the manufacturer put the warning on its product. So if you use it and get sick you can't bring a suit against them. Most plates like that are for collecting so the manufacturer can use toxic materials to make them. If you wish to use them try putting something on top of the plate that you can see through but won't let the food touch the plate. Something like shrink rap...Best of luck with the plates...

No...those plates and mugs are good for decorative display only. They contain lead which will leech into the food you eat or drink from them ....which is the same as ingesting lead paint chips...it can lead to problems with the neuro system.
