I am a bus driver from South Wales and I am amazed by the amount of OAPs who moan at me when I ask to see their free travel pass. I mean, all they have to do is show me a small piece of plastic and they can get on for nothing but they complain and moan when you ask to see it. WHY?????

I think that they assume that when they look in the mirror and see an old person that is the same view you get when you look at them. If they look that old they consider that is as good as showing a pass.

The terms and conditions in relation to using a pass whether for OAPs or anyone else including the ever polite school kids (HA!) is that they should produce the pass for inspection every journey. If everyone bothered to get them out before the bus arrives (late as always) we would not have any problems. Drivers can not see in pockets or bags. Try assume someone has a pass and you are almost certain to get a slap or grief.

Some of the answers to this question do not take into account the fact that OAPs are only entitled to free bus travel within the boundaries set by the issuing authority (usually the local council). OAPs travelling outside their council's limits may not be entitled to free travel. It is also possible for passes to be withheld due to suspected misuse. How is a bus driver supposed to know if a particular passenger is entitled to travel unless they show their pass?

Questions regarding the free bus pass for London O.A.P's. i think that people in London get a free bus pass because they are over 60 years old. How do the pensioners pay for it? Must they pay the full money up front? Surely if the council pays for the passes it will be out of pocket? A London underground pass costs, for example, £3,000 and yet most old people including my nan, only use the train once a week.

Why show a pass when their face says it all!!!
Theyve worked hard for those wrinkles and still they have to go into their purse and fish around for a pass that says "im old and past it". Anyway even if they didnt moan about having to show their passes they would find something else to moan about like the bus being too cold or the price of cheese. Accept the old and embrace them. That'l be you one day

You have to pass an exam once you become an OAP to show just how grumpy and awkward you can be....i think they score more points for bitching at bus drivers.

Come on, isn't it obvious? Their arthritic old fingers aren't as nimble as they used to be so you asking them to rummage in their suitcased sized handbag is just not on. Why would it occur to them to get it ready before the bus comes along. They are standing at the stop for a reason arent they? They push and shove and fart and moan, etc. They should all be issued ASBOs along with a pension book. Old gits! If I get one more walking stick or shopping basket jammed on my poor toes - its gonna be handbag war!

Because it should be obvious to you that these people are OAPS, If you tell them they look too young im sure they would only be too happy to show you their passes

The probably assume your taking the p**s when they know they look well beyond the age you need to be to get the freebie bus pass. Plus, it gives them something to do.
