mental patients should be able to determine there care to some degree. if they have severe problems (going to harm themselves or others)that choice should be taken away from them. but always yes to a lawyer or advocate. believe it or not there is allot of abuse in hospitals and group homes, they think who would believe a mental patient, i can do what i want.

yes, human rights, any one has the right to take or not any medication. It is not a demand for counsel, the patient should be pre informed by note of rights before demanding, why if client wants alternative medical should they be denied (classed mental) for an alternative or is self assessment recognised ? Yes demanding legal counsel or board if patient requests should not be denied

Everyone has rights until they are legally taken from them because they are not of sound mind to make a valid decision. If a mental patient refuses medication (refusing therapy) and interferes with his fellow man's daily life, the law steps in. If the mental patient isn't a menace to society, and doesn't take his meds, he is setting himself up for a horrific life that is only stressing himself out and not making strive on fitting into society.

Are they an adult? Are they still in the hospital or are they out. If they are out, then yes. If not then they might have to accept treatment until they leave, then refuse it.
