I've been taking it for over a year and have had zero side effects or issues. Once I started taking it, I went back to the doctor three months later for a follow up and my cholesterol was normal! Now I take it to maintain. High cholesterol is hereditary in my family.

Statins cause severe muscle aches and pains in some people. Joint aches are somewhat less common, but I've had a number of patients who had to stop statins for this reason.

Statins are the most effective drugs for lowering LDL [bad cholesterol], but not the only ones. Since the joint aches are dose related, you might be able to tolerate 5mg or 10mg of atorvastatin, which would be better than nothing.

Alternatively, there are non-statin drugs that might work for you, such as Zetia, or Niacin.

Thanks, I won't be trying statins again! As you're in the bus. it may interest you that I was considered a unique case in the UK 10 years ago; I fully recovered from 27% LVF to 67% in 3 months and got my malignant hypertension peaking at 260/160 under perfect control. Fit as a fiddle now!

That crap can cause muscle weakness and apparently alot of other bad things for people. I read a doctor's column in the newspaper one day and this guy said that it did all kinds of stuff to him like damaged his brain to the point where he can't even balance his checkbook anymore. Doctors now days just look at numbers and then it's either pills or surgury. They care more about money and their golf games than you or me. Take a look at stuff like ginger, garlic, and apple cider vinegar instead.

There are major side effects for everything, right down to some vitamins & minerals. However, I'd get my answer from my doctor, ya know?
