People live with it for a long time these days. Is it REALLY a fatal disease? Look at Magic Johnson.

As far as I know, Magic Johnson does not have AIDS, he has HIV. The disease is only called AIDS when the person's Tcell count drops down really low. At this point, opportunistic diseases attack and those are what kill the person. People die from AIDS-related illnesses everyday and it is still very rampant in the United States. There are very expensive drug cocktails (that have uncomofortable side effects) that help people live much longer with the disease, but it's still a killer.

Magic Johnson was on tv. a few days ago trying to tell people. Yes it kills. There are different strains of the disease. Some can a be controled for a time with drugs. But the disease can change and become resistant to the drugs. Sooner or later it will kill. The drugs can have side affects almost as bad as the disease, but once you have the disease you have little choice but to endure the side effects. While people can live a long time, that life is often very difficult. Protecting yourself from the disease is the best idea. He is proof of how precious life is. He wants to live. You have the chance to protect that life. Please do it.

Magic Johnson can afford cutting edge very expensive medical treatment. Can you. It is killing thousands a day in africia and I am afraid it may be to late from that contenent from becoming uninhabitated in 20 to 50 years.

The centre for disease keeps detailed records on deaths from aids in the US similiar groups do the same in their countries.

In 1981 when it was still called GRID (gay related immune defficiency) I believe there were 31 known cases. I seem to remember that there were either (my memory is not clear on this) 30 million deaths from aids last year or so far. I suggest you look it up esp how main was it spreads has changed over time.

Don't be fooled by these drugs. I watched a documentary about aids, seems the drugs work for awhile and then people start having health problems. There are side effects to these drugs. So be careful and take care of your health, you don't want to get aids.
As to the person here who's not on meds...good for you. I believe you can stay well with diet and vitamins to keep your immune system strong.

Magic Johnson has HIV. That is not the same as full blown AIDS. HIV can be dormant in your body for years and now there are medications that will extend the time that it remains dormant. But, once it becomes active, it starts killing. It takes longer now that is true, but it will eventually kill you.

AIDS doesn't kill people. people die from various infections that attack the body because the immune system is weak. a person infected with AIDS can die from a cold if the body is weak enough.

It doesn't stand for Anally Injected Death Sentence for nothing. Yes, it still kills plenty of people. It just doesn't get the headlines it once did.

AIDS IS very deadly, it is just a matter of how much money you have, or other factors that are more internal.
