I'm hearing conflicting reports that spouses can/can not fly space A or mac flight without their sponsor. Which is it??!

My husband's on deployment until May and flying home costs $$$. If I can mac it home with our kids, that would be wonderful and a true blessing.

I have heard of many spouses flying from overseas back to the US on a mac flight but not with travel within the US. I have to say many of the stories about mac flights are not the best though. Your flight is almost never direct and whenever you have a "layover" if a military member needs your seat, you have to give it up. You could easily be waiting a day or 2 to get another flight. Not the best idea with kiddos. Oh, also they don't pay for your accommodations if you get stuck. Its probably best if you just pay for your flight. Good luck though!

Close to free, you have to buy the meal! The problem is getting one. You will be traveling "space A" with means space available. Here is how that works priority wise. If there is a flight that is going near your destination, and there is a seat that is not taken by someone on official orders you can take a seat it you are on leave! Honestly, I spent 20+ rears in the USAF and never got a free flight for leave. Plus MAC has not been around for a while! It is AMC or Air Mobility Command!

no, it doesn't look like you can.

Dependents

Dependents may generally travel to, from, and between overseas destinations when accompanied by their sponsor who is eligible for the Space-A travel.

Family members generally may not travel within the Continental United States (CONUS) except when:
On domestic segments of overseas flights at the beginning or end of the mission
On any flight when their sponsor is traveling on emergency leave
On any flight when their sponsor is house-hunting at a new duty station (limited to one dependent traveler)

Spouse may only fly Space A coming from OCONUS or going to OCONUS. we cannot fly Space A within CONUS only unless our sponsors are with us.
