Lego Bionicles - very good for improving imagation etc get fun instead of technology! ...
Eg. you buy the red one
sometimes at the end of the instruction booklet it tells you to buy the white bionicle and you can make some big with both combined

It depends what he likes. If he is into movies then get him some DVDs....or if he needs clothes...then get him a gift certificate to the mall or something....I would advise you not to buy his clothes for him....or you could just ask him what he wants.
