I've often wondered if there is any guess as to how much food is wasted in the packs the restaurants give you of salt/pepper, mustard/ketchup, salad dressing etc.

I'm sure a mind bending amount is wasted via condiments, but far more is wasted because restaurants throw out entire batches of soup, drink mixes, salad, prime rib etc. after one or two days, and sometimes they haven't served one portion!

A LOT!!! Is wasted. Many people do not use them and some restaurants put way too much in take out orders. I've seen people toss the salt/pepper, mustard, ketchup packages into the garbage. As well, I would not use them if they were left on the table by someone else. Just in case they were tampered with.

Yes! And just the other day someone on YA asked why pepper is so much more expensive than salt. I got to thinking, I always take a HANDFUL of those tiny pepper envelopes, then just throw the extra, or the ones that get damp, away. Made me think.

Id hate to see exactly how much we waste. There would probably enough to feed all of the straving people in the world, pretty sad really. They would kill to even have one of those wasted packs of ketchup.

I don't throw any of these away. I keep them in my desk drawer in my office to use when I take my lunch from home, or to give to coworkers. I know a lot of folks who just throw away the ones they don't use. I try not to. If I eat in and take more than I use, I give them back. Interesting question.

Probably a lot, because I throw out all those little Soy Sauce packs that they include in the carry out! I stopped doing that, though... I just say " Thanks, but I don't need these"

most people don't keep them to use when they run out so i would say too much to comprehend. they need to do a research study on them. i mean, why not, they do research on everything else.
