The AA big book says if I do the steps and believe in God he will keep me sober, and remove all my character defects. I guess all those children in africa will have to wait their turn. The AA people also said my God could be a doorknob. Maybe in Africa they are out of doorknobs...?

AA is a cop out. It's nothing more than a cult, mandated at times by the judicial system. It has a 90+% failure rate. It requires one to not take responsibility for their problem, but to call it a disease (IT'S A CHOICE) and hope that god will fix it.

GOD will punish not only you, your children and your childrens children. Anyone remember that promise from the Old testament?
Promises have been made, and punishments have been promised to those that refuse to believe in the Only Living GOD.
Everyone likes to think of the GOD of Abraham Isaac Jacob and JESUS CHRIST as a loving GOD.
HE is loving, HE is forgiving to those that deserve forgiveness, but remember HE is a jealous GOD.
you will Love GOD with all your heart mind and soul, right?
and if you dont prepare to be cursed and your children cursed and their chidlren cursed for generations and generations.
In todays society where the many religious leaders have argued and pointed the finger against the other groups, its very confusing to know which system to believe. I would be confused myself if I hadnt read the Bible from cover to cover.
In that you see why the CHRISTian points the finger at the catholic for celebrating the sabbath on the first day of the month than on the last day of the month. and why the CHRISTian disagrees with the statues the catholic ";worships" which is inaccurate to some degree. Or why the Jehovahs do what they do. Or the Baptist do as they do.
Has anyone of you read the Bible for yourself and seen that these different religions have some truth to them?
Can you see where there particular rituals stem from?
Theres also some inaccuracies in all the religions. But its the intent in ones heart that only GOD can see.
Make no mistake about it...promises have been made to those that give their heart to The LORD, and pounishments have been promised.

I think God cares as much about children starving in Africa as He does about alcoholics. Maybe it is AA tha doesn't.

While the principle of God helping those in need that seek him out is sound, I find it hard to believe that kids in africa universally neither get help from anyone nor know or love God. Also it is naive to assume that all alcoholics are successful in combatting their problem or are universally serious about getting Gods help for it. Remember there are atheists that go to AA also, it is reasonable to assume they are NOT looking to God for answers.

I know man it's crazy! Why do we need the charity or grace of God when there's AIDS in Africa, and crack babies being born right here in the United States.
But the decision we have to make is to either shed our pride and accept the grace of God, or try to carry our burdens on our own.
Because of Man's sinful nature we have things like famine, poverty, genocide and AIDS. It's terrible but that's the world we live in, fortunately we can control our eternal place after this world passes.

What makes you think the word "sober" refers to acohol? One is drunk when he cannot see his mission on earth well. Indulge in the worldly Sins and bad habits such as prostitution, kill, lies, steaing etc. God keeps you sober cos when you believe in him and follow his teaching, you will avoid the bad stuffs = "Sober"
Thus, he is the door knob to you in this way.
For the starving kids in Africa, Aids...well, God cares as much. But God to not just Spoonfed us. We have to learn Self survival in this world. Look in another angle. Those kids are all along getting some help from all over the world in volunteering work and donations...medications.....from believers of God...isn't this God's answer?

You are not going to get a good answer from American Christians for a question like that. As they are only interested in themselves, they think that God is only interested in them also.

This game of, trying to get one over on the Christians thing, is getting old. Why not just give in and believe. All of the sadness and misery you feel will disappear if you accept Jesus as your personal savior. Let him in and your heart will overflow with love.
