I will be flying to Europe (flying into Frankfurt, Germany) on December 6 and will be returning home to California on December 15. What is the best way to dress to keep warm and dry? (I am female by the way.) I will be taking the train into Austria, Italy, and Switzerland also. Do you recommend several layers, or just a warm coat? Also, should I expect snow in early December or just rain? Thanks in advance for any input. It will be my first trip to mainland Europe.

I suggest that it is better to wear several layers of clothing and these leaves more spaces in your luggage for your shopping too . It is adviceable to wear an all weather coat with a woolen lining with a hood. In case it snows or rains. also bring along a scarf for protection for your hair, or put around your neck to protect your throat.

In that part of Germany you can expect snow, therefore dress warm in layers especially while on the train. So you can take things off if you get too warm, trains are heated. Winter boots are a must and a warm coat.
Have fun and a safe trip. You will love it.

It will be COLLLLD! Frankfurt Germany is more like Canada in weather. I'd pack wool sweaters, wool coats, and coats to protect against rain. you probably will have snow. Bring lots of layers and you should be fine.

I flew into Frankfurt Germany in August and it was chilly then.

Layers iare always good. It is very cold over there that time of year. Take the big coat on the plane (makes a good pillow or blanket) to save room for the stuff you buy there. If you run out of room while over there, send home your dirty clothes. Be sure to take a hat to cover your ears, scarf and mittens/gloves.

Layer up and brace for snow and cold. Think fleece, gloves, scarves, etc...
