My crazy psycho yet nice neighbor across the street asked me to drop her off to tailgate before the football game here tomorrow with her friends. I gave hints that I didn't want to, like "I'll prob. be asleep but I guess I can set my alarm," but she didn't get it. I don't see why she can't drive herself except that parking will prob. be bad. I AM NOT going to just tell her no, because that would be mean, so please don't tell me to balls up and do that. Seriously, what good excuse could I call her tonight and tell her I don't want to with? Besides I'm sick or my car is broken down. (She'd know the latter b/c she lives next to me). Any suggestions?

Ok, I don't know why you just can't say NO, but if you must lie, lets keep it simple, complicated ones are hard to remember later. If you have a pet, the dog, frog, whatever is throwing up, and you would feel too guilty to leave them for even a minute, besides you have to watch it in case it's serious. Or you can use the I feel sick excuse, just tell her you are feeling really nauseous, and your afraid if you drive, you will puke,[that should turn her off], later just say, luckily I'm not sick, must have eaten some thing that disagreed with me. Now I realize you do not want a lecture, But if she is so bold as to ask you for a ride, a big inconvenience, why is it so hard to say no? You are probably too nice, which is better than ,being mean, not enough nice people around.

Depending on what time the tailgate is I would haul rear end before she see's you tomorrow. If she stops tell her you are going to a relatives....Tell her you should be back in time. Then about 45 minutes later call her and tell her you blew out a tire and have to get the car towed to a tire shop.

If she doesnt see you then just stay away from home ALL day!!!

tell her that you decided to adopt a dog from the animal shelter then someone egged your house so while you were cleaning it up the dog ran away so you were chasing it when an out of control car came and you ran to the side of the road with precious Rover then you realized it was too late. but actually your watch was set an hour ahead so you were wandering th neighborhood looking 4 your house when a police car came and....

It's not mean to tell people no! Today's society has brainwashed people into thinking they can (and have to) do EVERYTHING that is asked of them, and turning down a request is "mean" or similar. Just tell her politely that you're unable to drive her, and perhaps you can help her out in the future.

Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!

"Thou shalt not lie.' A lie may not hurt her, but it will be on you. Just call her and tell you're sorry, but you will not be able to make the trip, and you wanted to let her know in time so she would be able to find another ride..You do not have to 'make up' an excuse. Honesty pays in the end, because you will not feel bad after lying to her.

I struggled with this all my life. I could not say no. But, you will pay a steep price for that one day, trust me I have all to much evidence for that. I started to learn how to say no this year and it is getting easier, as a result my life is getting better. I give myself 12 guilt free "no , Id love to but I can't" per month. It is odd, the ones that make you feel so guilty for saying no, are the same ones that make you feel guilty for the results of your inability to say no. You have to start learning how to say no without loosing respect or love for yourself. You can do it... it is hard work, but it gets easier! This is a great example for you to start with.

If this is a once in a while thing, just do it...you never know when you might need her help in an emergency. If this is a habit of hers, then take her, but start pestering the living crap outta her for similar things....help me clean my gutters? Walk my dog, since I have an ingrown toenail..etc. I'll just bet she'll get the hint! Good luck!
