She is 15. She missed 2 days of school and work. Her throat hurts and she can hardly swallow. Her head also hurts but she is prone to migrains. Her temperature has been up and down and at one point last night it was less than 96 (her usual temp is 96. something). I've given her Advil and a cough/cold/flu nighttime pill in addition to squirting some medicine on the back of her throat (not all at the same time). I've now put a cold cloth on her forehead. What else should I be doing?

You should take her to a doctor; there's a host of medical conditions that fall under those symptoms, some of which are life threatening. She might have the flu, a staph infection, meningitis, etc, and it's impossible to tell without consulting a doctor. A fever of 102.6 signifies that something is definitely wrong, and she should be evaluated by a physician to determine what it is.
Meanwhile, keep her comfortable, and encourage her to drink fluids so she stays hydrated.
Hope this helps!

Take Advil evey FOUR hours--even thoughout the night and be vigilant about her temp. If it hits say 104 go to the ER! You can die or go blind/deaf from a high temp. There should be no reason you can't control her temp with constant advil. If she'd not better by Monday morning call the doc she could have mono or menigitis. Stay on it, and don't let it go. If it reaches 105, put her in a COOL, but not cold tub and call 911.

Be careful not to give her too much NiteQuill or cough stuff that has a decongestion and put her too deep asleep.

God luck

Sweetie, thank your lucky stars that she has never had a fever, you are very lucky and so is she! Perfectly normal. Just remember though, she may have had one but possibly only a very low grade fever (37.7 for example) but you may not even notice it because it really isn't that high and nothing to worry about. How many fevers have mine have, my god! I have lost count!! hahahaha. I do know that the highest I've had with them is 40+ degrees and my youngest has only just taken out that record last week!! Viral again so there was nothing I could do but wait and watch. She's fine now and up to her old tricks of using things to stand on so she can reach higher (something her sisters did not teach her much to my surprise!) and of course chasing around after her big sisters :-) among other things. All the best and very pleased to hear that Ava hasn't had fevers, lets hope it stays that way for her too :-) xx

What I think you should do is wait for tomorrow, and then go to a normal doctor. What she has sounds like strep throat. If she does hit 104 sometime tonight, then go to the hospital. 104 is very high for anyone.

Are you sure her normal temp it 96 point something? That’s not healthy if that is her temp...in fact...that’s VERY low. She should be 98.6...that is a normal woman’s temperature.

You'll probably want to have a doctor look at her. With a sore throat and fever, she may have strep throat ... and if she doesn't get antibiotics, that can lead to a lot of serious problems. Tylenol will bring down the fever until you can get her in ...

She definetly needs to go to the docter! If her temp goes up so fast, then she must have something bad. There is a bad virus going around, like phnemonia and broncidus. I caught it and started coughing up blood. You will definetly need to get her checked up on, especially if she starts to complain about her throat.

ok, usually when kids have problems like that... usually there is a perscription medicane out there for them to use for all the symptoms they are having... and yes 102.6 is pretty high so i would suggest going to the doctor and see if they have a perscription medicane for her to use for all of her symptoms... I hope this helps you out and i hope your daughter feels much better!
