haha...we used to keep plastic bags in all of the cars when I was little, b/c I was the vomit queen. I used to have the worst motion sickness while riding in the car and I would feel sick and throw up like 40% of our long car rides. Bring some bags and make sure they throw up in the bag. Its not really safe to pull over if you're on a highway. Even if you do pull over, they'll probably have thrown up before you can get them out of the car. I would go with the plastic bag method, then throw the bag out as soon as you find a safe place to stop.

My child DID vomit in the back seat of my car. In a terrible thunderstorm. AND we had to get off the interstate and pull into a city that we had never been into. People walking everywhere, in the rain!

We cleaned up the car after we got home. No big deal. A year later, we got rid of the car anyway.

I remember the movie Car Wash. The lady drove a Mercedes Benz. The CAR was more important than her sick child. She had him hang is head out the car window to throw up. And don't throw up on the side of the car. I see a LOT of parents like that! The car is more important than the child.

The most important thing is to be safe. Don't panic... it's gross, but not the end of the world. Keep some plastic grocery bags in the car for trash, wet clothes, etc. within reach and then if your child is old enough you can quick hand them one and they can try to at least they can vomit into it. It's not 100% leak proof, of course.

YOUR job is to pull over as quickly and safely as possible. Getting in a car accident is far worse than cleaning up puke in the car. That said, you also need to pull over to help your child. Especially if they are younger, it might be a choking hazard.

Anyhow, hugs to you if this happens. Totally gross, and totally part of parenthood.

One of the lessons we learn the hard way: Always keep a change of clothes for both you and your kids in the car. Plus, something to clean up with, like baby wipes (even if they are no longer babies!)

FIRST - Don't panic! That can cause an accident. I had this happen at least three times. Pull over to the first Safest spot out of traffic and remember to put the car in park, don't hold your foot on the brake. Grab a towel, shirt or whatever and deal with the child. Baby wipes are critical in a car with kids. I try to not let the kids eat anything they could choke or gag on when driving - especially lollipops! Keep the windows cracked too, cool air will help avoid car sickness.

Ironically this has happened to me on a drive from Las Vegas to Phoenix... Turns out one 8 yr old holds enough vomit to cover the entire interior of a rental car, themselves, 2 parents and 1 sleeping unaware sibling...

If you have a bit of warning you pull over and let them vomit on the side of the road otherwise you pull into Kingman and purchase a lot of paper towels, a bottle of Fabreeze, some dramamine, some pepto bismol and make the rest of the drive into Phoenix with the windows rolled-down...

Depends how old the child is. My son used to throw up, I mean projectile vomit when he was a toddler, not much I could do but clean it as soon as we got home. But he is older now and sometimes gets sick in the car. I always have big zip lock bags with a few napkins or paper towels in them. He can puke wipe his face and zip it closed. Of course if the child is really really sick I would stop somewhere.

It would depend where I was. If I was flying down the interstate with a lot of traffic I don't think it is very safe to pull off, although I probably would and run around and take them out of the car.
If I absolutely thought it would be dangerous to stop I would just let them vomit and worry about getting it cleaned up later.

I would find a place and pull over ASAP. If I couldn't do that, I would give the child a container to throw up in. Either way I would talk to him/her and try to comfort him/her...throwing up sucks.

I would hope I had a chance to pull over. If you are on a road where that is impossible , I guess you just have to accept the inevitable. Not much either one of you can do about it.

If your not in a safe place or there isn't a place to pull over then I say just let them puke you can always clean up, but if you get in a wreck it could be way worse.
