Absolutely not! That would be like saying a diabetic person is sinning because they use insulin shots.
A person who takes anti-depressants does so because the chemicals in their brain are not interacting correctly. It is a physical problem that causes a mental symptom ranging from depression to anxiety to suicidal thoughts, etc.
The anti-depressant just corrects the physical problem so that the mental symptom is no longer such a big deal.
Just like in diabetics. The pancreas stops producing enough insulin to help regulate blood sugar, so they take insulin shots to treat this problem. They are both physical problems that the medicine corrects. There is nothing wrong with taking anti-depressants if you need them!

NO. We live in a fallen world, and there are many things wrong with our bodies and our minds. Is it a sin for a diabetic to take insulin? Is it a sin for someone with an infection to take antibiotics? Neither is it a sin for someone with depression to take antidepressant.
Some folk believe that if U pray enough and live a good enough life you will be cured of all infirmity. Bull. That is nowhere in the Bible. God promised He would never leave us or forsake us, not that our trip would be pleasant. Just look up the story of Job. He was the most righteous man of his day and he had terrible boils and illness. Look at noah - he still went out and got drunk - problem with alcohol.
No - antidepressants are not sinful. People juding you or your family as being in any way wrong for seeking treatment - they are the sinful ones here. Good luck and God bless!

I don't think it necessarily a sin; it might just be that it is the wrong choice for you. If you are not clinically depressed then the answer will not be found in a drug.
There are 3 types of depression .... clinical (which needs the medicine to balance them out), situational and spiritual (or mental, for non-believers).
If it is a situational depression, such as the loss of a loved one or severe stress due to circumstance, then MAYBE medicine is the thing for you, but more than likely, counseling would work best.
If it is spiritual(mental) then medicine definately will not work, what you need is a change in your thinking processes.

Wow, I didn't realize there were actually people who would regard that as a sin! Where in the Bible does it say "Thou shalt not take a medication for mental and emotional illnesses"?
I have taken anti-depressants for years, and I still suffer from time to time from severe depression. I try to work on myself spiritually and I go to counselling and all, so I don't only rely on medication. But the way it has been explained to me, is that depression actually causes your brain to use up all of certain chemicals, and so your brain gets depleted. In that condition, ANYone would have feelings of depression. This is not a sin, but a physiological condition. The anti-depressants help to replenish the chemicals to their normal state, so that you can have a healthy brain to be able to work on your stress factors and all that.

No, it is not a sin. Is taking aspirin a sin?? I don't think so.
God made all the plant life and the herbs.
Our medicine came from the earth, God made it for us, and knew mankind would have knowledge of it's benefits
Scientists discover, new drugs all the time..
From the earth, even if it is made in a lavatory, most of the stuff comes from the earth.
Don't believe everything people say
Be Blessed
God is a good God and he made all things good.

Of course not. Anti-depressants and meds for panic attacks or anxiety are simply mood elevators, not an illegal drug. They are not addictive (if you don't abuse them), and can make a person feels so much better. Yes God can help, but maybe anti-depressants are an answer to prayer God is providing.
God bless you, and I will pray for you:)

Medication for depression and mood disorders are a "miracle" for many, many people. If someone says it is a sin to use them, they might as well say it is a sin to take any medication for any reason. It is not a sin by any means.

This is why some of us despise religion and the bigots who promote it Nikki. People who think that to accept treatment for mental health problems, even "mild" ones like anxiety, belong in the middle ages. There, they might have got the plague they deserve for their vile beliefs, and lived to the ripe old age of 33.

I don't think of it as a sin, but it is a judgment of God on you because you don't have to be depressed. God gives the soluton for depression in Phillipians 4:6 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Now I do recognize that there are medical reasons for depression such as a lack of Thyroxin etc, but if these are not the cause than try God's way through prayer.

No.
Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God.
In other words, sin is anything that hurts your relationship with God.
Following your doctor's prescription is not sinful.
With love in Christ.
