Studies have shown that chronic Ecstasy users preform less well on certain cognitive and memory tests than non-users.
In high dose, Ecstasy can interfere with the body's ability to thermoregulate, leading to increased body temperature. This can result in liver, kidney, and cardiovascular failure, leading to death.
Increased heart rate and blood pressure, which can be dangerous, particularly for people with preexisting cardiovascular conditions.
Psychological effects including confusion, depression, sleep problems, drug cravings, and severe anxiety may persist for days or even weeks after taking the drug.
In animal studies, Ecstasy has been linked to damage to neurons involved in mood, thinking, and judgment.
Other drugs that are chemically similar to Ecstasy are sometimes sold as Ecstasy, and present additional risks. "Fake" Ecstasy tablets are associated with many fatalities. Ecstasy tablets may also be laced with a number of other drugs including cocaine, ketamine, ephedrine, dextromethorphan, meth, and even caffeine. As a general rule, drug dealers don't tell their clients what else is in the pills they're selling, so you probably wouldn't know about this.
In short, E will damage your brain and body, and may even kill you.

I know this is a different approach to the question, but one of the most harmful things about drugs is that you become reliant (not necessarily addicted) on a chemical to give you a positive mood alteration. When you rely on a drug or even another person or situation to give you a positive result, it is harder to be content with yourself and life when that item is removed. Because more effort has to be used to create the desired effect by ones-self, many get discouraged and often suffer from depression or interpersonal relationship withdrawl. Its like you continue to chase the way you felt when you were intoxicated, but you always fall short of that feeling unless you obtained the drug again.

IF you mean Ecstacy, it works by screwing with your neurotransmitters - mostly by significantly boosting the same ones thougth to cause depression when they are insufficient. So, you take a chance on frying a healthy system and ending up dealing with depression and other related illnesses later in life if you do much of the stuff. That's the theory, and there's basis in reality for it.
As important or more important, if you are prone to any type of emotional or mental disorder, you just might find out a whole lot sooner or end up with an active form of an illness that could have never became apparent if you didn't take E in the first place.
