the police can ask you anything they want. i wouldn't give you the number to the best lawyer there is. unless you are legal. go home. the idiot above me must not be watching the news. they are eventually going to let state troopers pull you over, and if they find your illegal they detain you and call ICE. glory, glory.

As Americans we have the right to ask whether or not you're a legal resident. But to answer your question, if you're from Mexico that doesn't automatically make you an illegal alien, unless you don't have a green card. No green card, no stay. The police can ask anything they want. Most of them are pretty smart and have been through a lot, so I'm sure that they know when something strange is going on.

Not in our town Mount Vernon WA - they will just let you go - My wife got hit by an illegal alien and they just let they guy go...with a ticket - You would think if the guy didn't have a lic - no insurance - no registration - they would figure it out....nope they just let him go...thankfully my wife was driving a truck and the mexican (yes he was from mexico ) so thankfully his car got pretty well smashed up...and all we had was a slight bent fender....big truck little car....loved that part of it....

They don't even have to ask if you're legal or not. They can run your license and find out in only a few minutes. An illegal doesn't always come from 'Mexico', they come from anywhere.

they can ask, but they do not have the power to do anything to you. their job is to protect people against crime. yes, if you are here illegally you are committing a crime. But you still have rights and they protect those. so, if someone has harmed you they will help find that person no matter if your mexican or italian or anything else.

I think they can, but they can't arrest you for being illegal. they just call border patrol.
