You can buy tickets at the ailrline sales desk yes but I'm not sure if it would be the cheapest option. Tickets are usually cheaper the further in advance you book them.

Do whatever you want, mate. It's a free country. Some things to think about have been touched on already such as buying tickets in advance. There are also package deal operators where you can get deals. Airlines, car rentals, hotels.
Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after you intend to return. Have enough cash for things like transfers at the other end.
Good luck

Probably not.

If cheap flights is the priority you'll get a nasty suprise. When you just turn up thats when they charge silly money.

If you want cheap you have to plan in advance - normally an airline will have a set number of seats set at a certain price. As the plane gets fuller the price also goes up.

Yes, one of my friends used to do it with his son, they'd turn up at the ticket counters and say they had carry on bags, cash and passports and wanted the cheapest standby tickets to somewhere that didn't require a visa. There was always someone who had empty seats they wanted to fill.

It's a risk but yes you can. If there are flights that aren't fully booked then you can book it. Of course you might want to find out about hotels too for when you get to your destination.

Yes there's nothing stopping you. It isn't always cheaper and security get notified of people who want a plane quick and are paying by cash, as it's sometimes an indicator of someone who's up to no good. (leaving the counrty in a hurry sir?, where's the murder? etc etc).

yes you can I used to fly London to Glasgow and have done this several times though its best to find out in advance if their are seats available unless you are taking a chance and just going anywhere lol.
Also if you turn up and one airline is full you may have to use another and that could get really expensive
