I just used a depilatory cream on my face. I noticed it was tingling, so I washed it off. I followed up with the topical cream meant to help the skin. However, it is red and still stinging. I assume this is a chemical burn, and would like to know what are some ways to treat this?

Any real tips would be helpful.

Aloe vera gel works well for me when this happens. Try one of the more natural ones that doesn't have very many chemicals, like Lily of the Valley or Fruit of the Earth. I've had really good luck with using the kind of aloe vera gel that can be consumed (found at health food stores), but I don't think you'd have to go that level with things.

I've also had good luck with dabbing some cocoa butter on when the burn is in the latter stages of healing.

The main thing is to not use anything that will irritate the skin in the area of the burn. No harsh soaps, cleansers, astringents, anything.

Right after I had one of those burns, I found that cold compresses helped to get rid of some of the pain and the slight swelling I had--but I had a decent sort of burn, so you might not need to use one.

First of all, when you use depilatory creams, don't ever rub hard. After waiting about 8 to 10 minutes put a cloth with hot water (that you can stand) on it and hold it there a couple of minutes then, gently rub only lightly with the cloth to make the hair turn loose. Rinse well with cool water. I don't even use those creams that come with the kits, I use Neosporin ointment (NOT cream, it burns). I use depilatories for a slight bit of facial hair and I always do it at night before bedtime and any rash is gone by morning. Depilatories shouldn't take more than 8 to 10 minutes to loosen the hair on your face so don't leave it on too long. I've been using depilatories for about 45 years. No problems. Good luck to you. Don't put anything on it!!! It's most likely that your already sensitive face (from the depilatory cream) is reacting to your topical cream's fragrance and other ingredients. I would either put nothing on it, or put some Aquaphor lotion on it. By the way, Aquaphor is my favorite products. I always keep a tube in my purse in case I get dry hands, chapped lips, or accidentally cut myself on something. My dermotologist turned me onto the stuff. He said that it is gentle enough to use whenever my sensitive skin acts up. So, give it a try. Good luck!

I get those all the time using these types of creams and you should let it heal by itself. It will take 2-3 days or so. Next time don't leave it on as long.

Aloe vera gel is the cheapest and best healer. But if you are looking at other alternatives, you can mix coin-size of the gel with 1 drop of lavender essential oil and frankincense essential oil each to make it heal faster. Lavender soothes and heals while frankincense helps in cell-regeneration, thus reduce any scarring.

Get an ice cube and run it all over you face. It's going to chill out the burning. Gently pat it dry then put on some neosporin, but only on the red parts. You'll be good to go in a few hours.

I would try aloe vera gel, or the aloe vera gel with lidocaine that you use for sunburns, the lidocaine will numb the burning. And I don't recomend putting toothpaste on it at ALL., I use the toothpaste method to help heal acne, and trust me, it burns enough itself alone.

Antibiotic creme is the best thing for it in the beginning while raw and still in the early scab stage. Keep your hands off it and keep it clean. Apply Vaseline to battle the dry skin and help scabbing stay light as possible.

I would stay away from lotion, coco butter and the likes as all have perfume in them that will irritate your skin further.

Aloe gel is really the safest and most effective way. Either buy it in a pure form or squeeze it from a plant.
