I've tried Proactiv and alot of over-the counter products, but nothing really works well.

Also I've visted a derm today and she prescribed me Retinol A, Dyoxycline and Benzaclin..what are your experiences with any of these? And are they suppose to cost so much?

Overall I just want to know what experiences people have had treating their acne & the scars. Thanks ahead!

Try any medication with Benzoyl Peroxide. I find personally that it neither dries the skin nor makes it too oily. I am using a great cleanser called OXY Daily Wash, and it has 10% Benzoyl Peroxide. I had been using 2%, but switched after finding minimal results. My skin was naturally oily, and I used to have acne, but now I just have the regular pimple now and then.

And yes, I have used Retina A, but I found it to be too drying on my skin. But everyone's skin is different, so I'd give it a try. And don't worry, the prices are steep, but I used to get a bag full of free samples of the perscribed products in little tubes. That way, the only cost of the visit was the actual visit.

Also, no matter what product your using, I suggest taking a wash cloth about once a week and gently exfoliating your skin. This ensures that dry skin wont get built up, which is a cause for pimples.

Hope this helps!

I struggled with acne for years and I finally found the solution that works for me. We have been fooled, tricked, deceived, and just plain lied to. It's time that someone put a stop to it, and everyone learn the truth!

Those of us who suffer from acne have usually been given 2 choices and neither of them work:

1. Over the counter remedies such as cleansers, creams, ointments, etc. These things have been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

2. Go see a doctor and or dermatologist. They will generally prescribe prescription drugs which include topicals and or antibiotics. This, too, has been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

I found a step-by-step program that cured my acne and it has never come back. It is amazing and doesn’t use any drugs or doctors. The truth is that acne can be cured…if we know the secret the doctors and drug companies don’t want us to know.

There is a great website: http://cure-my-acne.info/3daycure/ that has all the details. I really suggest you check it out and see if it works as well for you as it did for me.

If your current prescriptions and time don't do the trick and if, after your acne clears up, there still is scarring, you may eventually want to talk to your dermatologist about dermabrasion. That would be in the future, however. For now, the drugs you list may indeed help you. Yes, they are expensive.

I am puzzled by the answerer who said to try Lunesta. It is a sleeping pill!

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.

For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

i use everyday a prescription cream called "Benzol Peroxide 5%"...maybe thats now how you spell it, but anyway, ask your doctor about it. within 3 days to a week of use, it stops new acne from coming up, and in about a month of usage or a month in a half, all of the scars will be gone. this is how it worked for me anyway, it's easy to apply and it works.

I use a combination of birth control, pro-activ, and different spot treatments. It's important to drink lots of water to flush toxins out of your body as well. Drinking soda increases the sugar in your body. It's also very important to wash your face every day. If I wear makeup and then go to bed without washing it off, I notice blemishes immediately. Your pores need to be able to breathe, and wearing makeup as rarely as possible is important. If you aren't going out, or you're only seeing people who you don't care that they see you without makeup, leave it off. I also find it helpful to be careful what you pop. Don't pop zits unless you have to, do NOT pop under-the-skin zits (that painful kind that is red but deep under all seven layers of skin). If I pop anything, it's blackheads because they are clogs and it's good to open them before they become zits. Of course my skin isn't perfect but that's what I find works. If you don't use pro-activ, try some gentile cleansers and wash your face at least twice a day: once in the morning and once before bed.

My bf had the same problem...I found out that he just wasn't washing his face enough. Routinely wash your face every morning and before you go to bed with soap and water. Just keep your face clean. Make sure you pillow case is clean too.
