I was just wondering if people get sharp pains near their hearts or on their left side of their chest. I am young so I am not guessing any heart problems at all very healthy and active. some times it just happens randomly and when it does and I try to take a deep breath the pain gets sharper.. any ideas about this?

I used to get this like two or three times a year and visited ER every time. Doctors checked on me and laughed at me. It was just muscular pain which went away with Tylenol.
But be safe than sorry. Go to ER if this happens and get it checked at least once. Good luck.

I have experienced the exact same thing plenty of times. I'm 26 and it began when I was very young, but I never told anyone because I was afraid to be different (as any kid would be). I did some independent research after an episode (the first in years) and discovered that the sharp, piercing pain located near my heart was possibly related to the muscles between the rib bones, maybe from stress or over activity. The hearts nerves originate in the center of the chest and the sensation would be more of a dull throbbing (so I read). So if the pain is near your heart, chances are it may not be a problem with the heart. However, I'm no doctor. I'm just contributing my two cents. Best of luck to you fellow heart throbs!

I've had the same exact problem for several years now. I'm 27 and i think it started in my late teens. It would happen out of the blue. It would be an extremely sharp pain in my upper left chest area. And the deeper i tried to breath the worse the pain gets. I usually try to take very small, short breaths. It doesn't last long. Usually only a few minutes (2-3). And it will go away. It tends to happen a few times a year.
As far as i know i don't have a heart murmur. But i may go to the hospital to get it checked out. I'm going to explain to the doc what happened to Stacy ...

I have had this since I was in my teens and the doctors never found anything wrong. Then one day when I was about 30 I was getting a physical and just by chance the doctor happened to hear an irregular beat. I then had to go to get a ecg and it determined that I had what is call premature ventricular contractions (pvc's). I had to wear something called a "halter" for 24 hours. All it did was record my heart rythums and then from that information my doctor determined that it was not bad enough to have to be on medication. He told me I have probably had it all of my life and just no one had caught it until then. I usually find that it happens when I am stressed. I am not saying that you have this, I am just saying that it wouldn't hurt to let your doctor know what is going on so he can make sure nothing is going on. Good luck!

I get this problem too once in a while, scares me alot. I have a heart murmor. I don't know the medical term though. I think that is the cause of it. You really need to go see a heart doctor/cardiologist. You may have a problem in that area.

ahhh i know exactly what you mean. it's gas. lol. this happens a lot to me, and if it's not near my heart, it's somewhere in my chest, where i cant take in a deep breath because it'll start hurting a lot.
solution: take a gulp or two of water and burp once or twice. this always works for me. dont worry nothins wrong with you, it's just gas. next time, try my solution out. i promise it'll work
