I dont want to go to extreme measures like reinstalling hard drives or using the system go back. My problem is whenever I click on my Windows Media Player the screen never comes up, instead it doesnt do anything. Also when I want to watch videos on the internet it would say "cannot create DirectShow player"

Can someone please help, I was able to downgrade my Player to 10 but the problem was still there, so I went back to 11 and it still doesnt work. It would also be great if anyone knew a way to remove the whole windows media player and install a complete new one, thanks

i think to remove it all the way you have to go to the add/remove programs in your control panel and check the box at the top that says show all updates and the remove the acutal program and then scroll down and remove all the windows updates for the program also.
hope it helps

In my spare time I test antivirus/antispyware programs to see if they perform as claimed, and do see if there are any hidden embedded trojans, adware or malware either in the program or the wizard installer used to guide you through the installation.

Last week I was testing Spyware Doctor. An when I performed a scan my Windows Media Player 10 was destroyed by Spyware Doctor.

I had no sound an all my software in my system showed audio was turned on and not muted.

Was really shocked when I tried to add/remove WMP 10 and reinstall. Instead I was rolled back by Microsoft to WMP 9 an then I was able to see videos and hear my streaming music.

I should also mention that I upgraded to WMP 11, an still had the same problem no sound or videos. (Actually Microsoft, rolled me back to 10 and 9 before I was able to get my sound/video back).

Wish I could offer you more assistance on how to resolve the problem. Right now I am stuck with WMP 9 in my backup pc.
