Your cat may be sick. With the limited info you provided, I'm going to focus on the weight loss and poor appetite. Those symptoms alone warrant a trip to the veterinarian. Many things can cause those problems, and it would be best to run some bloodwork, do a stool (poop) check for intestinal parasites, and give him a good physical exam. You said the cat has lived with you for 3 years. Was he an adult when you got him, or was he a small kitten? There are conditions that can affect cats more often as they get older, which can cause weight loss and loss of appetite.
It's certainly possible that he's eating his meals away from home, either wild prey or out of food bowls left out by neighbors, but the weight loss is a concern. After all, there are many "strays" that eat well and look fat and sassy.
As for not being home, is he neutered (fixed)? Neutered cats roam less as a rule. How about other cats at home-- does he have competition? Or, are YOU away a lot? Some cats will spend more time outside if the owner isn't home-- to them, it beats being in a lonely, empty house.
What you should do is take the cat to a vet for an exam and testing-- go ahead and make a call.

Can someone, anyone PLEASE tell me WTF is wrong with ppl?
You said he does not like to be at home, every time he comes back he looks worse.
Where does he go to? Outside frolicking around?
Get the cat to a vet asap. Get him neutered asap. Get him vaccinated asap. Need I say more??
If it is a money issue then tighten up your purse strings. The cats life and health is way more important than another tube of lipstick. That was an example BTW.
I see ppl in my city who rather buy another pair of 125$ sneakers or some tacky assed big gold earrings than bring their pet to the vet. SELFISH!
Call local vets, ask for a low cost neuter/vaccination clinic. They do exist you just need to do the leg work. After all isn't YOUR kitty's life worth it?
Your kitty could get Rabies BTW. A Rabies death is quick and painful for cats AND humans! You can get Rabies from him.
Try a wet food. Leave dry food alone for a little while. Does he drink water at all? Can you keep him inside the house for a few days to observe his behaviors? Check his body for bites/scratches.
Please don't hesitate to long. OK?
Good Luck with your baby kitty :)

He doesn' t like being at home? Read your question over again. It's obvious that being OUT is the problem. Cats want to go outside, but it's like letting a child play in the middle of the street. They think it's a good idea, but you're the one who is taking care of them. Children eventually learn, and can take care of themselves. Pets are driven by instinct, they do not grow up, and we've put them into our dangerous, hectic world.
Domesticated animals are not the same as wild animals. And by that I mean in the mountains, the forest, in Africa etc.. Not the big city.

I am assuming that you let your cat outside? You need to do the following:
Neuter him if he has not been neutered
Keep him inside, DO NOT LET HIM OUTSIDE
Feed him a premium cat food, not the stuff from the grocery store, feed him food from a pet store (Nutro, Eukanuba, Wellness)
Take him to the vet and make sure he doesn't have a nasty disease like FIP or worms.

He probably is leading promiscuous life and by the time comes back home, totally exhausted on the pleasures derived during the day. His tummy is also full because of junk food that he consumes during the day.

Give him to someone who can give him attention or make more time for your cat.
