My mom is 50, divorced 16 years ago and has only had one boyfriend since then. She has only been on 5 dates in the past 10 years and none of the men called her again.

A week ago she met this guy and calls him her "boyfriend." She even had me and my wife meet him last night. My mom already cut her hours at work so she has more time to spend with her boyfriend since he works part time. She even invited herself to all his events: poker night, monday night football, etc.

He seems nice enough, but he has never been married, had children or lived with a woman. He is VERY set in his ways, and just seeing them together I could see my mom was trying to change his routine and he didn't seem comfortable with any change.

She is having him meet the family at Thanksgiving too! My wife even thinks this is way fast and we don't think she has the best judgement when it comes to men.

What do you think about this?

Well first off I am close to your moms age, and no way would I want a relationship like that.. Yes, it seems from what you are telling us that she might be trying to fast, to soon, and as far as changing someones way at this way,, "NOT" its not gonna happen!! It sounds like she may like him a bit more than he does her. I would suggest to mom that she should of asked him if he had plans for Thanksgiving, and not jump to inviting him so quickly. Of course, Thanksgiving is a special Holiday and all, but usually the guy ask if the lady has any plans first, and go from there. hmmm.. I think she might be scared of being alone and wants to find a partner.. I just hope she takes her time a little more, and remember. Love will come to you when you least expect it.. :) Happy Thanksgiving and Good Luck!!!!

It does seem like the hand writing is on the wall. Maybe you and your wife should take mom out a few times and have an open conversation with her about what you see happening with her new found friend. Maybe Mom needs to see some movies about fa tale attractions, what's love got to do with it and Womam Thou Art Loosed. If she still does not get the message, then set her down and tell her straight out. That she is moving too fast with this new person. You don't want to see her get hurt.

I think that at 50 years old your mother can make her own decisions. What are you going to do ground her and forbid her to see him? It does not sound like an ideal relationship but if it doesn't work out your mother will probably find this out soon enough on her own. If you voice your concerns she is only going to defend him. She will end up holding on to him longer if she thinks she has a point to prove to you. I hope that she is not giving him money. But you know what, there is nothing you can do except make your mom mad at you. For her sake she will see things as they are sooner rather than later. Love is blind.

hey she's an adult and has been divorced for a while, get to know the guy and be happy that your mom has finally found someone that she cares about.

This is really simple. You love the guy when your mom loves him, and when he dumps her and hurts her you tell her you never liked him that much anyway, she can do better.

You wouldn't be happy if she was telling you how to handle your relationship. Let her be happy for now, nobody wants to be alone.
