Why are you asking a question about a legend? I would guess that most theologians would like to find the ark of the covenant to see the tangible evidence of the 10 commandments. Or maybe even the original 15! (That last part is a joke.)

You don't die, I explained that when you just asked the same question 10 minues ago. To die you would have to be Jewish and not a Levite living before the time of Ezekiel. The Philistines captured the Ark and had it for months and handled it and none of them ever died. It is not a legend it is Bible history.

I don't think that's true anymore since that was in Old Testament times, but even if it is still true, we can't find the ark anyway. The man who dropped dead in the Old Testament when he touched the ark to keep it falling in the mud was sinning against God because he had been commanded not to touch the ark, but he disobeyed God and did it anyway. God is holy and we are sinful. www.equip.org

The Ark has been lost for hundreds and hundreds of years and might actually not exist anymore, so there's no chance of touching it. And I don't think that you would die if you touched it.
