1995 Nissan Altima uses consult 1 and consult 2 diagnositc devices and some generic Shap -On scanners. The car does not have a button to turn out the light. The engine control computer has a slotted screw that allows mechanic to read and clear diagnostic codes five different modes. By just clearing the code you do not know what caused it.

Your best bet would be to take it to a local mechanic that can hook your car up to their scanner, then they can tell you why the light is, if it is something to worry about, and if you need some parts replaced. Usually those lights come on because you have something wrong with the emissions system, and if you live in a state that requires emissions tests, then you will usually fail if the engine light is illuminated at the time of inspection. However, it can also come on because of a number of other reasons. Try keeping track of your fuel mileage and if it has gone down you may want to have it checked out.
