Yes. I once was seeing this girl from Turkey named Serife. She was a Muslim, I am a Christian (or at least I was raised that way.) We found that between the two, there were no differences aside from silly meaningless specifics. Her family would never have accepted me, my family could never take her seriously as a person. But they never matter. You like your friends for completely different reasons than spoonfed beliefs.

Yes, there are ways of being tolerant of each other's different beliefs. My best friend of about 15 years is a Mormon and I am a Christian and we have slightly different beliefs on certain issues. This hasn't stopped our friendship. Her family is like an extension of my family, as is my family like an extension of hers.

Sure. I'm a Christian, but have friends of many different religious beliefs, not to mention some who are hardcore atheists. We all get along quite well.
