After reading bout a guy whos security dog attacked nephew
Most people were outraged that he would spend that much on a dog

And i looked it up and the highly trained protection dogs can cost as much as $85.000.00 US

IF YOU THINK THAT IS EXPENSIVE THAN HOW MUCH SHOULD SOMEONE PAY FOR A DOG

I read that posting last night and it made me so mad I could'nt answer it.

$34,500.00 is not too much to spend on a dog that's trained that highly.

It just enrages me that someone would spend that for a dog that's been trained to kill if necessary and expect it to act like a poodle around a child who was most likely climbing on the poor thing or jumping around screaming and waving it's arms like a fool. And then get mad that the dog was defective for not only doing as it was trained but not listening when it was commanded off.

People's ignorance never ceases to amaze me.

All things are definately relative
To an extremely wealthy individual sums like you are mentioning here are very arbitrary and could present no problem at all on an absolute whim----to others of moderate means they would be finding a much more cost effective plan to run with if they absolutely needed a well trained security dog---and would probably find one that did what they do for much less---

When it comes to the dogs of the working classes---especially the guard dogs--- they are most definately trained to WORK and therefore will be expected to EARN BACK the initial investment over time--- If they are placed in a high security or high risk effort they will more than likely be covering territory that would have to have a fairly high paid individual walking that beat if it were not for them and that individual would be expecting pay every day that they were on the job --- with the guard dog--- the pay out was up front and the only cost factor after that is the maintainance of the animal--- food---vet expenses and the like--- so in certain circumstances the overall savings over time could be extremely significant !!!

But--- it's like I said up front--- it's all relative
to the guy who has the money and the need-- no problem
to the guy with no money and no need-- it's outrageous
to the guy with the need and little money--he'll pay considerably less and get something that he can live with
ect ect ect-------------relative !!!

$34,500 is expensive to me. I can live off of that much money for an entire year and still have money leftover. (In fact, some people don't even make that much money in a year).

I suppose it's not too expensive if the guy who bought the dog is a millionaire. The only reason I'd be outraged is if that guy had a family to support and he went into debt to buy that dog.

I doubt I'd ever spend much on purchasing a dog. I'm more of a cat person. But if I really wanted a dog that badly, I'd probably be willing to pay $200 or $300. Beyond that, I really couldn't afford one.

I think even if it was gold plated that is too much to spend on a dog. Also, I don't think the security dog you referenced was "highly trained" or even properly trained. If it had been, it would have been able to tell the difference between a child (I am assuming the nephew was a child) and an actual threat.

No dog is worth that kind of money! It is ridiculous! Personally I think $1,000 is too much to spend for a dog. There is this big ripoff breeder is Texas who sells some of her chihuahuas for almost $15,000 just because they are supposed to be from the same bloodline as Paris Hilton's Tinkerbelle. And there are some idiots who would pay that much! Crazy!

Of course it's too much to spend on a dog. It's NOT the dog they are paying for.. it's the specialized training. And I think that much is even too much for pay for training (unless it's trained to dig up gold or mine for diamonds).

You would probably be better off putting a capable dog (like a German Shep or a Doberman) through an intensive training session. You can buy an excellent, show-quality purebred German or Doberman for $2,000 or less and then probably put him/her through a training course that would make it an excellent security dog for WAAAY less than $10,000. I mean, honestly, for $34,000, you could buy an anti-tank gun; don't spend that kind of money on a security dog.

a highly trained dog can cost a lot. however, why not get one at the pound or shelter and go to classes. anything over $200 is rediculous to spend when there are wonderful dogs out there who badly need homes.

Anyone who would pay that kind of money for an animal is a fool. It doesn't even matter if you can afford it or not.

I got a Lab Mix puppy at the pound for free, and trained him myself. The house behind me, the 2 houses to my right, and the house across the street from me were all burglarized. My house was never touched. I used to go camping by myself, and only had my dog for company. He was my perimeter alert, and never let me down.

I word of caution...Train your dog with love. Hug him, rub his belly, and tell him what a good job he did. You want your dog to do things for you because it makes him feel good to please you, You don't want him to obey you out of fear. The bond isn't as strong. My dog could sense my love for him, so he gladly gave his back to me.

dogs that are specially trained for the blind will cost that much, dogs that are specially trained as drug sniffing dogs will cost that much. I have 3 dogs that are my protectors, one in which is my helper dog, I am handicapped none of my dogs are certified and I didn't pay anything for them. They were all rescued. If I needed a seeing eye dog then yes I would pay that much, if I needed a dog trained for the FBI or even a police dog then yes but I don't need either of them.
