usually until they go off, but most eggs are date stamped these days to make it safer.

I recently asked this same question to the local grocery stores, and what they said was it was just best to throw them out or use them by the date marked on the carton. Just to be safe.
Otherwise a good egg will sink in water and an old egg will float.
Also use them within 3-5 weeks of purchace. Personally I would stay with the date on the carton

I just read this today in our newspaper. Eggs stay fresh about 3-5 weeks after the expiration date as long as they are kept in the fridge, and they don't have any cracks. Hard cooked, only abt 4 days. There ya go!
p.s. they keep the best in their original packaging. Don't take them out of the carton and put in one of those fridge holders.

2 to 5 weeks.
I don't keep mine more than three.
If you are unsure, you can trying "floating" the eggs in water that you've added a little salt. If the egg is fresh it will sink. The quicker or farther it sinks, the fresher it is. If the egg floats, it has spoiled.
They stay fresh for longer if you keep them on a shelf near the bottom of the refrigerator than if you keep them in the door

If you buy them packaged at the grocery store, they usually have an expiration date on the package.
Normally about 2-3 weeks in the fridge.
