I myself have seizures. Epilepsy is best described as a muscle spasm in one side of the brain. Everything locks up, muscles constrict and most of the time but not all the time there is the well know shaking. If your friend seizes all you need to do is put him/her on their side and watch the tongue. Seizures worst side effect is vomiting and that is why you place them on their side so they will not choke on their own vomit. The tongue thing...the tongue cannot be swallowed but in lots of seizure cases the tongue is severely bitten. Hope this helps...and please just stay calm...that's the best thing you could ever do. The person having the seizure doesn't want to wake up to someone freaking out whereas this can cause more stress.

Epilepsy is the tendency to have repeated seizures that begin in the brain. The brain is a complex structure made up of millions of nerve cells called neurones. It controls a wide range of tasks such as consciousness, awareness, movement, and posture. The brain sends and receives messages to make these tasks happen. If there is a mistake sending or receiving messages, a brief break in some or all of the brain's tasks can happen. If this happens a person may have a seizure. Epilepsy is a physical condition that starts in the brain - a neurological condition. It is a symptom that the way a person's brain works is sometimes disrupted. When this happens, a person may suddenly have a seizure. Many people will have a single seizure at some time in their lives, but this does not mean that they have epilepsy. If a person has epilepsy it means they have had more than one seizure that began in the brain.

ways to treat epilepsy

Anti-epileptic drugs - AEDs
Up to 70% of people with epilepsy could have their epilepsy controlled with anti-epileptic drugs. AEDs prevent seizures from happening, but don't cure epilepsy. There are many AEDs, and the type someone takes will depend on the type of seizures they are having.

In some people the tendency to have seizures decreases with time and they may be able to stop taking their AEDs. Other people may have to continue taking AEDs for the long term even if their seizures have stopped. This may happen if the underlying cause of the seizures, for example a scar on the brain, is still there.

Some people may not get complete control of their epilepsy, even though they may have had the most suitable treatment for their type of seizures

Epilepsy is a brain disorder in which clusters of nerve cells, or neurons, in the brain sometimes signal abnormally. In epilepsy, the normal pattern of neuronal activity becomes disturbed, causing strange sensations, emotions, and behavior or sometimes convulsions, muscle spasms, and loss of consciousness. Epilepsy is a disorder with many possible causes. Anything that disturbs the normal pattern of neuron activity - from illness to brain damage to abnormal brain development - can lead to seizures. Epilepsy may develop because of an abnormality in brain wiring, an imbalance of nerve signaling chemicals called neurotransmitters, or some combination of these factors. Having a seizure does not necessarily mean that a person has epilepsy. Only when a person has had two or more seizures is he or she considered to have epilepsy. EEGs and brain scans are common diagnostic test for epilepsy.

If your friend has a seizure in front of you roll her on her side ,do not put your fingers in her mouth, she made bite you. She should come out of the seizure on her own, and she will be embarrassed. If she doesnt call 911

Epilepsy is a neurological condition that from time to time produces brief disturbances in the normal electrical functions of the brain. Normal brain function is made possible by millions of tiny electrical charges passing between nerve cells in the brain and to all parts of the body. When someone has epilepsy, this normal pattern may be interrupted by intermittent bursts of electrical energy that are much more intense than usual. They may affect a person's consciousness, bodily movements or sensations for a short time

Really, Bibigirl? I have a buddy who's diabetic and in addition occurs to were Pentecostal on the time of this incident. She handed out from a low blood sugar, and everybody unnoticed her. They notion she were "moved by way of the spirit". They notion this much more whilst she began seizing. The carrier ended, and there she lay. Still. It wasn't till her buddy reminded humans she was once diabetic that any person even notion to do some thing remotely useful. So, it sounds as if your statement is improper. Apparently the ones residing within the spirit can not inform the change from the spirit and diabetic unconsciousness. Yay!

It's a disorder in the nervous system that's characterized by seizures of excessive brain activity. If your Friend goes into a seizure you should keep them away from stairs, furniture, or any other objects that could harm them while they're seizing. Surround their body with pillows. If the seizure is not violent roll them to their side.

My son was an epileptic, I am not sure how it works, I know it's something with the brain waves. If he has a seizure, make sure he's lying down, make him comfortable and see that he doesn't hurt himself ( push furniture out of the way) and just stay calm and speak calmly to him. He might or might not hear you but it won't hurt. When he comes out of it, he will be disoriented and scared, hold the hand, talk to him and help him get up. He might be hurting from muscle cramps and probably will be sleepy and want to lie down.
Sorry I am saying he. Didn't know what sex your friend is.

The wiring in the brain is mixed up. If your friend has it and has a seizure the best thing to do is to lay them down and put something in their mouth to hold their tongue down so they don't choke on it or bite it....don't use your own fingers to try to do this. Call 911 as soon as the seizure is under control. Never leave them unattended during a seizure, as they could severely hurt themselves. My step-daughter's best friend had a seizure and she hit her head on a metal table leg and it caused slight brain damage.

A person has an attack, there nothing you can do, they will not die from it even though it looks like they will. Once the attack starts you can't stop it. Just let them be till it passes.
