Corporal punishment is ok in my opinion. I slap my sisters rarely, when they do very stupid things (of course, they're only 8 and 6 years old... kids their age get in to trouble a lot!) But I think what you did is good because that showed him that you care for him and that you're watching over him as well. This will make him realize that there are people who actually want the well being of him and he will eventually realize his mistakes. It's ok, really. I know how stressful it can be when you're the oldest, especially by 9 and 11 years apart!! (I'm 18 and my sisters are 6 and 8 , as I said before) Don't feel bad, when he's calmed down, sit down with him and talk to him about smoking and its dangers and let him know that you care. He's a big boy, he'll understand your worries. Trust me.

Angered caused violence is never a good thing. Keeping your temper is very hard to do sometimes though. I don't quite blame you for hitting him but it would have been better if you had given some thought to it. You might have come up with a better solution to your problem.

Smoking is one of the hardest addictions and the only way to stop is if YOU decide mentally that your ready to stop.
And If its something he's seen you do, then no it wasnt right to slap him. you have to find another to reach to him that smoking will catch up to you. they way I got my friend to stop smoking was challenge him that if he quit smoking I'll stop eating fast food. and since I kept my word and he didn't, I use to make him feel like he wasnt doing his part saying stuff like ''so you just gonna give up, huh".

You're his big sister... You can do whatever you want, as long as you dont take it too far (like daily beatings).... I can tell you feel bad about it, so you should go to him and apologize and explain to him that you jusr care about him and dont want to see him hurt himself... It should work itself out :)

I think so - it sounds like you did it out of love. Of course, liberals don't have a clue and can't understand that.
