My boyfriend is trying to buy a house and I was wondering if anyone can answer a question for me. If we get married, and he then buys a house, but just in his name, will they still run my credit?
Thanks!

Not unless you are applying for a joint loan or are a co-signer.

Hi Georgia,

If you get married and your husband buys a house, it will not affect your credit until and unless you have applied for a loan or cosigned on the loan which he taken for home purchase.

In case you apply for a loan, your credit will be affected negatively only if you are late on payments or if you default on the loan.

Thanks,

No, they won't run your credit, but why would you want to be married to someone that isn't going to put your name on the house? Take my advise, don't even do that with a car, let alone a house.

No. However, any accounts that he shares with you now will show on his credit report so make sure he keeps his stuff seperate until you are back on track.

I write a blog on the subject of credit management, mortgages, real estate trends, etc. Check it out for more information that may be helpful.
