I do because I don't want crap all over the couch or bed. They make doggie cleaning pads but they are a little pricey. I get the cheap store brand baby cleaning pads and wipe their butts. I have long hair dogs too so if I don't clean it off it gets stuck in their hair.
I would rather wipe it off on a cleaning pad than have them wipe it on the carpet- YUK!

Many years ago I had a neighbor who was dying from cancer.She had a little mutt she walked every day regardless of the weather as her health permitted.
The whole block was in an uproar over this woman patiently waiting for her dog to poop where ever it felt the urge.Then she'd take a kleenex from her pocket,wipe the dogs butt and put the kleenex BACK in her pocket and go on.Not once did she pick up the poop tho.
That picture will never leave my head evan tho this occurred over 20 years ago.
No I don't ever wipe their butts after they go.But I do pick up the poop if it happens in an area they are'nt supposed to go in.

If he gets something on it. I have short hair dogs and they don't have but cheeks so it is not like they have much to clean. But be careful if you do, a mother teaches / encourages her pups how to poop by licking, or blowing on their butt. So you may stimulate something

No , not unless he gets some stuck on his behind. Then you don't wipe it you have to wash it out.

Actually dogs are not like humans. if they poop there is no need to wipe. trust me
