They earned their metals so they should be able to wear them in civilian clothes if they want to. After you leave the service most are not authorized to wear their uniforms so if they wear the metals that they earned with their civilian clothes, then so be it.

I dont know but thats a good question.. however.. as a veteran.. I dont feel the need to wear my medals with civilian clothes.. I wear it in my heart all the time... and everyday is Veterans Day for me.... I keep mine at home.. displayed behind glass on a shelf... where I can choose to go look at them.. not to show them off....

to all those who said they don't wear medals over civilan clothes, veterans can wear their medals over their heart on their normal clothes on veteran's day, and I think this might be wear the question came from.

Ordinarily the medal stays with the uniform. I have never seen a civilian wear a medal, have you?

I just checked with my b/f, and he says people do, and there is no rule against it.

As a previous poster stated, exactly as one would wear them on a uniform.

He was at a miltary funeral today, and he saw a couple people.

You don't. Only with dress uniforms, not like the pictures of Kerry wearing his questionable Purple Hearts on his utilities.

most of us vets dont feel it nesasary to "show off" what medals we earned while in the service we know what we did to earn each one and its no ones buisness but ours
