Do you have a picture of the couple early in their marriage? You could make a kind of photo collage, which spans the years of their marriage.

I really like the personal touch. I would have various family members and friends contribute photographs and memories or stories and make an album to commemorate their lives together and with their families and friends. And, to tie in the "Golden" aspect of the 50th, make the album gold in colour and title it "Our Golden Memories" or "Memories are Golden" or "The Golden Years"...whatever. A personal gift of time and love, from the heart, is always the best present.

For my in-laws 50th I made a slide show of pictures from their wedding day forward and it was wonderful. I took digital pictures of their 2x3 shots and they came out well. It was a lot of work but they loved it.
They asked for no gifts and meant it! Does the anniversary couple want gifts?
All of the kids gave them a weekend away to relax after all of the festivities. They also got a tree, wine, food etc.

It depends. Are you one of the two celebrating 50 years or are you children whose parents are celebrating or just friends or another relative in the family? If you are the kids, I would be planning a party for them and that would be your present to them. If you're in the relationship or some other relative or friend, the traditional gift for 50 years is gold (hence it being called the Golden Anniversary).

It depends on how you know the persons celebrating their 50th Anniversary...
If you are close to them: a classic black and white picture with a handwritten note of thanks for them being in your life written around the matting of the photo.
If you are not really close to them: That's a tougher story since I'm not sure how you know them...maybe a sincere card and a gift certificate to a restaurant for them to enjoy together?
I hope this helps some! Good luck!

Why not gather pictures and make a scrapbook, unless this has already been done.
If you're going to have a reception, then a good idea is to get a wedding pic from their wedding and have it put on top of the cake, now days they can scan a pic and it can be put on top of the cake.

How about a nice card and inside put a $100 or more gas card so they can drive down memory lane? I'm sure they'd appreciate the card and it will certainly rekindle some memories.

A good present is something that they would normally buy for themselves so ask some questions and if they respond by saying "Oh I would never pay that price" you got a winner

We gave my grandparents season tickets to the local symphony. They never missed a performance and loved every minute of it!
