Religion in my view is an outdated feature of peoples lives; religion was created in the past because:

•Humans are intelligent animals (mostly) and therefore we always are inquisitive, we don’t see dogs pondering about life after death or erecting stone circles. When our ancestors wondered when the rains came the easiest thing was to, because people didn’t understand it, and humans don’t like that was to put it onto a deity, have a rain god. The same with volcano’s earthquakes and most natural processes. Now we know that the movement of rains is due to air flow and seasonal variations in it; volcanoes and earthquakes are due to tectonic movement. Evolution and Creative Design are simple extensions on that idea, it seems beyond our 100 (if we are lucky) years on this earth to grasp the 500 million odd years of complex and the 3.5 billion years of ‘simple’ life that we had before we reached this point. We really do not need to wonder why, or try and find solutions in a deity.

•BUT people still want to hold onto the Christian view of creationism, the idea that God created the heavens, light and all that stuff in 7 days, why can these people not see that is was because the thought of a massive explosion and then the evolution of the earth, solar system, universe and life as we know it followed? People with to read the bible as if it is the only truth and all other ideas can go and screw themselves, if they would understand that the bible was written to help those people 2000 years ago understand their surroundings and the worldly past without the knowledge we have gained would things be better?

I fully accept that religion offers people comfort and warmth in troubled and difficult times, but its influence on science and the interpretation of the bible is in my mind incorrect

Lectio Divina is Latin for “spiritual reading” and represents an early monastic technique of prayer which continues in practice though less widely, intended to achieve communion with God as well as providing special spiritual insights and peace from that experience. It is a way of praying with Scripture that calls one to study, ponder, listen and, finally, pray from God's Word.

History
Lectio Divina was first expressed in the year 220 AD. It was found that to read the Bible profitably it is necessary to do so with attention, consistency and prayer. The systematization of “spiritual reading” into four steps dates back to the 12th century. Around 1150, Guigo II, a Carthusian monk, wrote a book entitled “The Monk’s Ladder” (Scala Claustralium) wherein he set out the theory of the four rungs: reading, meditation, prayer and contemplation. In 2005, Pope Benedict XVI stated, “This is the ladder by which the monks ascend from earth to heaven.”

Method
Lectio is typically practiced daily for one continuous hour. A selection from the Holy Scriptures is chosen ahead of time, often as a daily progression through a particular book of the Bible.

Time
Selecting a time for lectio divina is important. Typical methods are to pray for one hour in the morning, or to divide it into two half-hour periods, one in the morning and one in the evening. The key is to pre-select the time that will be devoted to the prayer, and to keep it. Using the same time every day leads to a daily habit of prayer that becomes highly effective.

Place
The place for prayer is to be free from distractions. This means it should be isolated from other people, telephones, visual distractions, etc. Some find a religious icon to be helpful. The same place should be used for lectio if possible, especially as one first begins to practice it. Familiarity with a location reduces the possibility of distraction away from the prayer. Some practitioners conduct other devotions, such as praying before the Catholic Eucharist, as a preparation for Lectio Divina.

Preparation
Prior to reading, it is important to engage in a transitional activity that takes one from the normal state of mind to a more contemplative and prayerful state. A few moments of deep, regular breathing and a short prayer inviting the Holy Spirit to guide the prayer time helps to set the tone and improve the effectiveness of the lectio.

Once the stage is set it is time to begin the prayer. There are four phases of the prayer, which do not necessarily progress in an ordered fashion. One may move between different phases of the prayer very freely as the Spirit guides.

The Four Moments
Lectio
Read the passage several times.

Meditatio
Reflect on the text of the passage, thinking about how to apply to one's own life. Gravitate to any particular phrase or word that seems to be of particular import. This should not be confused with exegesis, but is a very personal reading of the Scripture and application to one's own life.

Oratio
Respond to the passage by opening the heart to God. This is not primarily an intellectual exercise, but more of the beginning of a conversation with God.

Contemplatio
Listen to God. This is a freeing oneself from one's own thoughts, both mundane and holy. It is about hearing God talk to us. Opening our mind, heart and soul to the influence of God. Any conversation must allow for both sides to communicate, and this most unfamiliar act is allowing oneself to be open to hearing God speak.

You are making your observations from what seems to be one from the outside looking in and this cannot be done and expect to understand the subjective experience of what goes on in the life of a believer. I am sure you have heard of the expression "born again?" The Bible says that the Gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing. To put it bluntly, the things of the Spirit of God are Spiritually discerned and men reject the truths of God because they love darkness. If you want to know about the reasons why intelligent people turn to God, you have to understand that God must first prompt you by His Spirit. The fact that you are asking questions is a good sign that perhaps God sees in you something that is worth saving and maybe like Saul you are headed for your own Damascus road experience. I hope this is the case. Nonetheless the answers to your questions will not make much sense to you until you have your own subjective experience of the indwelling of the Spirit of God as He quickens the understanding of those who accept His free offer of salvation.
I'll say a prayer for you...

Believe it or not there are alot of intellectually gifted christians out here who do not see their faith as putting their brains on hold but heard the call of God speak to them with words that are true to reason, true to scripture, and true to life. I wish you well on your sojourn...

Just for you: Forget about "God is good, God is great" forget religion.

Just look at science. Evolution is an idea that was born to explain away God. There is absolutely no scientific fact behind it. There are just too many scientist who do not believe it. Go look at the evidence that creationist have to offer-don't laugh and scoff-reason it out. Th evidence in in their favor not the evolutionist . Look at what they say-take it to a scientist-reason it wrong-if you can.

thanks for your individuality,we are all equipped to figure out life,we are shown today with the universe where we come from.Science, religions, books and everything humans does, are from people point of view, the planet was flat right?science tell us of a bigger world and religions tells us of a god and no one tells us who god is in detail.I have made a research of 5 years and i have detailed who the real god is,now i need to globalize him like everything else.No one has any facts about who god is.Religions and science come from god and i know him, people will call me crazy but people say i believe in god but they do not know who he is,that is deceitfull.Soon or later my work will leak and people will know.We have to know god because of revelations i found in god.You keep on questioning because all answers are floating for us to find, good day.
