Who's problem is this really...
You may have the problem in the hear and now but it sounds like he has and will continue to have this problem if he doesn't do some thing about it. He can't live his life with who he wants and you are getting physically hurt! Has she been reported to the police; this is abusive and you can get a restraining order. A restraining order won't do any thing at first, but after three strikes - she is under arrest baby!
And after every additional offense it only gets worse for her!
You may want to consider one for your self and your friend should consider one as well.
Who is the one you asked about making the first move on; maybe you should see him instead.

As much as he's a boy and doesn't beat a girl, he also owes you protection. And what's this about your two best mates bringing you to be beaten up. It makes me wonder about the friends you're keeping. You may need to see a counsellor who may guide you.

Get some new friend, get any and all threats that she sent to you in text messages, phone messages, internet postings, etc, and call the cops. I also don't think this guy is doing enough to keep her away from you. I suspect that he might like the attention.

Stay far, far away from him. It will only bring you pain. Besides, what kind of guy lets his ex beat up a potential new girl?

As long as he wont get rid of his ex, he'll never give you what you want.
Clearly, you like this drama or you'd be long gone.
