My mom grew up in a home with a mother who smoked. My mom never smoked a day in her life - but to this day (she is now 44) she has lung problems, can not run far without losing her breathe and has other health problems caused by the tar build up from second hand smoke in her lungs.

The danger is going to come from second hand smoke. While it's not as dangerous as putting their lips to the cigarette and forcing them to smoke with you, they can still be affected long term from second hand smoke. If you're going to smoke, I'd recommend against doing it around your kids...at least until they're old enough to know better and be able to decide whether or not they want to be in the room when you're smoking.

My brother and I grew up around smoking - both parents smoked - in the house, the car (with windows shut), and most everywhere else (back in the 1970s, when you could smoke anywhere). In spite of the amount of smoke we were exposed to and inhaled, we were not sick any more than kids our age not exposed to smoke, and in most cases, we were sick A LOT LESS OFTEN.
Secondhand smoke claims are grossly misrepresented - health organizations, anti-smoking nazis, and others who claim that thousands of deaths per year are caused by secondhand smoke, amazingly cannot provide the name of even one single person who has died from secondhand smoke exposure.

Yes, they are at their most vulnerable from second hand smoke. If you continue to smoke you might consider doing it outside. If you are worried about influencing them you could tell them it is a bad habit, but highly addictive, which makes it hard for you to stop once you get started. Tell them it is 1000 times easier not to start in the first place than to quit once you are hooked.

yes it could cause them health problems and for your own health and how would you cope if your lovely little girls got asthma through your smoking, try and give it up. I know its not easy as I used to smoke myself, they say a reformed smoker is the worst to listen too and they are probably right.good luck and keep your girls healthy, they will thank you for it later in life. show them good example.

Ummm... YEAH. Haven't you heard of second-hand smoke. My sister got asthma thanks to parental smoking. Also, you are sending them the message that smoking is okay when it's harmful. Quit now and teach them that health is important and so are they.
