Have yoou read Angela's Ashes? A true story the author is alive, still writine and living and possibly still teaching in NY City. Great book. An old book but a great story and a movie was made from it, the book is better is, How green was my valley. I read a lot but, don't remember a lot of the names or authors. There is Faulkner...As I lay Dying...gross but, good. Different as he is Willian Faulkner. Good luck.

Either "Less than Zero" or "American Psycho" both by Brett Easton Ellis. Both are excellently written books about the 80's culture. Less than Zero deals with drugs and the resulting destruction. American Psycho deals with the lust for money and material goods and the resulting loss of humanity. Both are real quick reads and you'll enjoy them.

If you're a girl, a great book is "The Joy Luck Club" by Amy Tan.
You can also go to Amazon.com and search for books in the topics you enjoy and get more ideas....

One For The Money by Janet Evanovich.
It's about a very inept woman bounty hunter--appropriate for either sex, and hilarious!!
