She knows her real paternal last name is Borroel. Does anyone know where that last name orginated from?

It sure does look Spanish/Mexican. I found a few instances of it at rootsweb.com. Here's one:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=jalisco&id=I11698

The surname stops with her, unfortunately, and no parents were listed; but it does show that there was a BORROEL family in Mexico in 1834.

You might want to nose around on Rootsweb to see what you can find. It's free. Just go to the link above, look it over, then click on "Home" to bring up the search engine. Use the fields on the left, not the right (the ones on the right take you to a paid site).

Good Luck !!!

Hers is an unusual last name. The site Switchboard.com lists only 89 people with the name of Borroel who have a telephone. This will help her know the areas where people with this name have primarily settled.
