Couple of observations:
- There's a lot of folks here who's parents hot boxed their cars. Interesting. They're HERE. They're not hold up in an iron lung, or under 6 feet of soil. In otherwords, you phucking survived this horendous ordeal.
- Second, are going to then make happy meals, chicken nuggets, and pizza illegal for children? Candy? Chocolate? Obesity is the number one health concern, so why not?
- Thrid, yall sound like we need to wrap our kids up in Nerf and make sure they wear a helmet everywhere they go....'gotta protect the children'!
- Fourth, I'm a non-smoker myself, been so all my life, and raised in a house where parents smoked inside, and drove cars with the windows up and smoked. I hated it, but I'd have been even more traumetized if my parents would have been arrested for it.
- Fifth, I'm absolutely DISGUSTED that younger folks today so casually give up whatever freedoms are left to us.
++++I've changed my tune. Not only I'm going to advocate, immediatly that we do this, I'm also going to go on a quest to ban chicken nuggets and everything else that's fattening and full of unknown carcinegins to be marketed with cartoon characters. I'm going to include Happy Meals, and everything else like this. Also, every time I see a kid walking down the street w/o helmet and bullet proof vest, I'm going to yell and scream until the cops come to arrest these horrible horrible parents. We gotta protect the children!!!+++++

In the city I live in (Lincoln, Nebraska) they have passed a smoking ban so there is no smoking in bars and restaurants. They say it is to protect the public. What I think is that an adult has a decision whether or not they go into a bar, a baby doesn't get to decide if they ride in a smoke filled car. I think that parents who do this are irresponsible and cruel. My husband smokes, outside, never in the house, and not in the cars (even if the kids aren't in it). I made the rule about no smoking in the car even if the kids aren't in it because I didn't want their car seats to smell like smoke. Either way, if a city can say no smoking in bars, and that you must wear a seatbelt, I don't see why they can't say no smoking in a car with children as passengers.

I would like to think that no parent smokes in a car with children. However I don't think there should be a law against it as that would be just another way of the government trying to dictate to parents how to bring up their children

I so see what your getting at but its just not viable. You can't (unfortunately) stop people doing what they want in their own property (which a car is) although here in Scotland there is talk of imposing a smoking ban in cars all together but I fail to see how it will work. I think they are using the 'distracts you from driving' card but who knows?
I am a smoker (BOOOOO HISSSSSS) I know I know, terrible isn't it? I am also a mother and have never and WOULD NEVER smoke in the car with my son in it, I don't smoke in the car full stop cos I know he is going to be comin in it at some point. At home I smoke at the back door and only once he has gone to bed. I have my bad habit but he comes first.
It makes me so mad when I see people being selfish and inflicting this upon their children. If your that desperate to smoke then park up and get out. I also hate seeing people pushing buggy's with a *** in their hands.
Its gross, but I don't think it can be made illegal, we just need to carry on tooting the horn and shouting at these monster parents when we see them - or is that just me?

Yes I do! Because little children don't have a choice - they can't just get out of the car and walk away. So they are trapped into inhaling the smoke with all its poisons. Adults have free will to choose their poisons; little children don't have that choice. That's why I think it should be a law.

I was a smoker but never in the car, even if my children were not in the car. I also never smoked in the house. It would be a great law, I do not think it would ever happen.

YES! I think it should be against the law to smoke in public and in the house. I think they should make certain places, for example a smoking bar or something, where people can smoke, and kill themselves. There's no reason why other innocent people should suffer because of people who choose to smoke, particularly children.
I can not stand when my dad smokes around me. I think it is selfish, rude, and should be considered man slaughter. lol That may seem extreme, but people can still die from second hand smoke. If people want to kill themselves, they should do it elsewhere and not bother people who don't smoke.

I think to turn it into a "law" is pushing things a bit. The ACLU would go insane start complaining about civil liberties. I am not a smoker (never have been) and personally find it abhorrent that a person would subject their child to such carcinogens. I understand an adult "has the right to smoke" if they want, but a child has no say and should not be exposed to it. I hate seeing young mothers smoke around their infants especially.
I think smoking around one's kids should much more heavily discouraged than it is. I don't think people really stop and think about it.
