I don't know if you have the Sprout channel in your area, but it has a great selection of PBS shows that kids just adore. Like Caillou, Berensaton Bears, Sagwa, Dragon Tales.
Kids that age love Dora, and sadly Teletubbies too.
Disney, Nickelodeon, and Sprout all offer awesome morning shows for little ones... Test them all and see what you daughter reacts to! You may be surprised..

I think the important thing is to make sure your child does not watch a lot of TV. Like an hour a day is probably more than enough. Read to her and give her educational toys. That's so much more important than TV. I can't and won't tell you how to raise your child, that's up to you. I personally will not even have a TV in my house when I have kids. But if you do want to go the TV route, PBS has some really good kid shows as mentioned above. I LOVED barney as a child and they still have it on PBS. They also have lots of Barney videos out. I know Family video has free kids rentals and I know they have the little einstien movies and some of the things mentioned above. It would be worth checking out.

Veggietales are good, Bob the Builder (it's not just for boys) and almost anything on Noggin. These are shows that you can let her watch and if the phone rings or someone is at the door, you won't have to worry about what her little eyes are seeing. Noggin is commercial free from 5 AM to 5 PM (central time) so children are not exposed to all the marketing gimmicks or graphic commercials for the evening programming.

My kids watch PBS. It has tons of educational shows. Dragon Tales, Calliou, Mya and Migual, Cyberchase (which is great for learning early math). We don't have cable or satellite by choice. Not because we can't afford it. We just aren't TV ppl too much. But we get PBS on the antenna and it is sufficent for what TV the boys do watch.

Dora is a great show. Teaches alot. My daughter is 2 and can count to 10 in english and spanish. She learned the spanish from Dora. Another good one would be Diego. Also Barney does a good job of teaching manners and sharing. My daughter loves those shows, but i dont let her watch too much. She loves to read too.

What kind of TV do you have (sat cable?) DirectTV has a channel on called "Baby first TV:" that would be ideal for your year and a half kid. If you want to buy a DVD try boohbah, tellitubbies, or barney. They are educational and fun for that age.

My Alyssa (14 1/2 months) LOVES Little Einstein. She learns about art and music (they actually show written music being played) and they have a lot of interactive play.

My daughter loves sesame street, teletubbies, baby einstein, basically anything on pbs sprout, noggin or baby disney. and they're all educational. I don't like that the teletubbies speak in baby talk, I don't think that's good for her to learn from. But it's entertaining...

Well, it's true she is too old to watch TV... I didn't watch TV until I was 4 and my brother until he was 2 or 3. Later on, though, she can watch... wait, that's right they took out all of the good shows for little kids six years ago.
