Yes, quite a lot in fact and you can keep it off.

Check out this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarian

My sister is a semi-vegetarian and it helps her keep off the weight. It is a more healthy diet, but humans are omnivores, so I would include a little meat now and then; chicken and fish are the best. Deer and Cows are adapted to get all their nutrition from grass. Humans don't have as much of their anatomy devoted to digesting that kind of food, so some vegetables are nutritionally deficient. Celery is the only negative calorie food--it takes more energy to digest them than it gives your body.

Don't let the ethics of vegetarians and vegans fool you. They may not eat or use animal products, but they need more food grown on the land so they are responsible for habitat infringement, toxic fertilizer use, and other things.

Haha! I am sorry but the answer is no. You can still eat all the cakes you want and drink all the soda you want.

Being a vegger is not to loose weight. It is a life style sorta like a realign. If you like meat then eat meat. Just do it moderation and you'll be fine

You can loose weight and eat meat. You should only be a vegger if you don't want to eat meat for some reason. Some people think it is healther and it may be, but eating meat will not make you drop dead in your tracks

ABSELOUTLY NOT. You need protiens in meat that help you build your body. And most fruits and vegetables are very starchy. If you want to lose weight, eat shorter meals with everything you need, including meat. Try doing an excersice you enjoy, such as swimming, or dancing, and do it regularly. Weight loss isn't about the type of plan you choose, it is about motivation, and sticking to your plan. I love to do sit ups to keep my stomach toned. I eat like a horse, but I eat healthy and excersice, and am still in shape.

You obviously have a weight problem and a vegetarian diet might help but even veggies should be eaten in moderation. I've never seen a skinny hippopotamus.

Not necessarily. I've been Vegan for over 11 years and vegetarian for a few years before that...my weight goes up and down...Exercise is key.
Also I know a lot of junk food vegetarians - they eat a diet of processed crap and hardly any whole foods.
don't get me wrong I think a vegetarian diet is better for your overall health and CAN help someone lose weight - it depends on how you do it and whther you go from a processed diet to a processed veggie diet.

You can still be heavy and be a vegeterian (I've heard Danny DeVito is a veggie). As long as you follow a healthy diet (Just like meat eaters) you will lose weight. Stay away from those premade frozen veggie meals, they are loaded with calories.

Not necessarily. Some of the unhealthiest people I know are vegetarian, they get much less protein, calcium, minerals etc that the body needs because of the foods they don't eat but don't bother to eat other things or take supplements to replace the things they aren't getting.

Becoming a vegetarian will not necessarily make you lose weight you need to burn more calories than you consume to lose weight

I think so. It has been known to make you loose weight by cutting meat out of your diet. Go to vegsource.com for their new food pyramid.

Talk to your doctor. Most of the people that seem to be asking that question every day on this forum seem to be anorexic teenage girls.

Be careful, being underweight can kill you. A friend of mine died that way.
