I'm just wondering if the same people who support NAFTA are the same people who are so vigorously anti-illegal immigration that they want to round up all the Mexicans & send them back to Mexico.
I wonder if these people realize that one of the reasons we have so many illegals from Mexico crossing our border is because of a direct result of the consequences of NAFTA.
Agricultural prices in Mexico went down because of the heavy agricultural subsidies given to U.S. farmers. Trade unions in Mexican urban areas lost their influence as a direct result of NAFTA as well. The vast majority of Mexican illegals are farmers who were forced off their land by bankruptcy in response to the disproportionate agreement in favor of the U.S. and Canada, leaving Mexico's main exports sinking year after year.
The free-flow of people across the U.S.-Mexico border was actually supposed to be a part of the 2nd phase of NAFTA, which was to be fully implemented by 2010. 9/11 changed that, of course -

....and now we're building a 700 mile fence along the border.
Do we want NAFTA or don't we? Do we accept that one of the consequences of NAFTA is the Mexican illegal immigration problem - or not?
These are dependent situations....can't have your cake & eat it too.

No. They are the opposite. They dont want any foreing influences. I think they are xenophobes in reality. Most people in Yahoo are xenophobes in sheep's clothing.

I am anti-illegal I do not want the super highway going from Mexico to Canada, with a way station for Mexicans that we have to pay for. So Mexicans trucks can be checked. Don't the Mexicans ever have to pay for anything. For the Mexican government to except those terms of NAFTA, shows they cannot govern their country, it was Clinton a stupid democrat that forced NAFTA down our throats, I did not want NAFTA. I new it would bring trouble and it has. And so will the super highway, more drugs and crime is coming our way. Bush is in cahoots with the Canadian Prime Minister and the President of Mexico for the highway project. Bush also wants open borders. That is why it has taken so long to get anything done on immigration, he is a Globalist just like his father.

911 didn't change anything. It was an inside job. Part of a plan called Problem Reaction Solution. NAFTA is part of a plan that will make Canada, US, an Mexico one country. This is the first step to NWO.
See Rep. Ron Paul NAFTA superhighway. he speaks out vigurously.

Finally! People here seems to have a hard time understanding that poverty in some other parts of the globe affects all of us. And that includes not only immigration, but outsourcing as well (cheaper labor costs, etc). It's really simplistic, not to say idiotic, to think that we can simply put up a fence and think that will solve the problem.

I think we should dump NAFTA. It doesn't appear to be working, so ash-can it and be done with it. Also, let's have that border fence.
