Religion has a very important place in medicine. First God uses other people to do His work in the world. Often when a Doctor has done all he/she knows to do they will pray for help and more than one miracle has happened this way. I have seen it.

Also it brings comfort to the patient and the family in times of terminal illness. It also helps the medical personal to cope with the fact that there is a limit to what they can do.

That's a tough question. Maybe it has a place when it comes to ethics, but in everyday medicine it depends on your belief. For some, no place, for Christians perhaps they believe in Jesus as a healer and follow his example and understand that if God is good, and God is all, then all is good. Then there is no room for illness and disease so it doesn't really exist. You just need to realise that it doesn't exist and not get sucked in to the fear or disease and sickness. Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free; John viii. 32

There are many people who believe that prayer aids and speeds healing but a study designed to prove that theory actually DISproved it.
There were people who were prayed for and told about it, people prayed for and not told about it and people not prayed for and the people who were not prayed for recovered from surgery faster and the people who were prayed for and told they were being prayed for took the longest. The faith based people who performed the study have suppressed the results and are spreading the LIE that prayers help.

In actuality it slows the process probably because having a take charge attitude is more stimulating to the immune system than the passive I don't need to do anything coz god will take care of it attitude.
Sad but true. I would rather have the best medically trained Dr.
helping me get well over a minister who thinks they are holier than the average Joe.

Along with you, plants were created that alleviated suffering and sickness. Knowledge was gained thru study that lead to intervention. We are told that we are to use our knowledge and be good keepers in this world. Medicine is a gift. It can bring about miracles. It can be abused and bring on death.

There are many stories extant about prayer reversing tragedy.
Far too many to be coincidental. Doctors have told many people that they have done all there is to be done, and that it was in God's hands now. Where-up-on the congregation took it on themselves to pray continuously for the sick and dieing.
Call it odd, but the patient recovered!

Take your medicine and pray that it works.

Seriously, I'm a therapist and I'm a Christian. And I know of doctors who pray before performing surgery. And of patients who pray before their surgery. The power of prayer has been proven to have a positive effect on the outcome of a medical procedure. It's called faith.

Religion and science are completely incompatible. Doctors who are religious are not thinking through the implications.

I would rather have a surgeon than a priest come in to the operating theatre with me. Does that answer your question?
