I have the STB connected to the VCR through Composite Cables (Red, White, Yellow), and the VCR to the TV the same way. Can I record an watch HD programs? I know it won't be true high-def, just downconverted, but I've heard that it looks a lot cleaner than standard-definition recordings. Am I right? Will this work? Thanks!

As long as a signal comes out of the composite cables you can record it to the VCR. Some STBs will output composite at the same time they output component, but others force you to select 480i format in order get output on the composite connector. The picture will be better, mainly because of the reduced noise level of the digital picture.

I can't see why you can't, but it won't be true HD, like you said.
