Give up using Windows, and install Linux on your computer. Linux is immune to all viruses, malware, spyware and adware.

Linux is a complete operating system that is either free or very cheap ($10-$30) and comes bundled with a huge variety of free software.

The Linux desktop is amazingly flexible and customizable, and anyone who is used to Windows will soon feel comfortable with it - and shocked by how dull their old Windows system looks by comparison! For example, in Linux you can use up to twenty (yes twenty) separate desktop work spaces - Windows only gives you one.

Go to www.distrowatch.com to find out how to get all the popular flavors of Linux...

...then do an image search for Linux screen grabs on Google.

BE COOL - GET LINUX

I would go to www.pcworld.com and check out there reviews. Along with avg already mentioned, I would run ad-aware se personal, spybot search and destroy, and spyware blaster. there all free programs that have worked well for me. You can find links to all these programs ( and more) at PC World. Just so you know I have never had PC World steer me wrong in over 20 years.

No single anti-virus application has 100% coverage, so to answer your question, your most complete coverage would be to overlap protection (i.e. get a commerical product and a free product to improve your chances of detection/protection).

I recommend Computer Associates coupled with AVG free. This gives a substantial level of protection with minimal resource consumption.

Best of luck!

F-secure
It can detect all viruses. The creators even say that you can even look in infected attachments with it. That's quite hilarious, but take in count that it can even delete viruses from the "log in state".
I have met many viruses and all is nothing to F-secure.
But the sad thing is that you can install it on one computer at once, because it checks the installation database on the net.
Even though it's the best you can get.

If you're looking for free antivirus, then AVG (www.grisoft.com) is the way to go. If you want to pay for it, then I recommend Norton Antivirus. They are very trustworthy and always up to date on the new viruses that are coming out. I've installed NAV on many computers for the customers I build and repair computers for.

Avast and don't listen to the AVG lovers because AVG stinks! Avast is the best free anti-virus.
