Yes, it's very common!
My doctor told me its partly the tissue where you had your stitches which is oversensitive, and partly that you don't make much lubrication for a long time after birth, especially when breastfeeding. Also, there's another thing called vulvar dysnea, which simply means "unexplained vaginal pain" and is quite common. My doctor recommended some personal lubrictant, and gave me a prescription for a small amount of topical anaesthetic. If you find it's ongoing and very painful, your doctor may prescribe this for you. It has to be the right kind, since it's sensitive and delicate tissue down there!
I know what it felt like, it was as if I had a cactus inside! It still hurts a little even after a year, but it is going away.
Good luck :-)

It probably depends on the type of pain. Our midwife recommended waiting several weeks (I think it was 12) before having sex again. It also probably depends on if you had a tear, etc.
When we did have sex again, it took a few times for it to feel normal again. It was uncomfortable, plus the fear of the possible pain makes it hard to relax. It did feel painful a bit after, too. Nothing really bad, just as if he was too big, or it was too vigorous.
Because you haven't had sex in awhile, it probablly feels a bit painful, and also it is harder for a woman to become lubricated. Have your partner take it slow, and use some extra lubricant if needed.
I'd say ask your doctor when you can, but some discomfort I think is normal.

If you recieved many stitches after birth it could just be stretching. If you are having a burning sensation it could just be due to lack of lubrication. Especially if you are breastfeeding. If that's the case drink lots of fluids and used a lubricant (no flavored kinds just yet) If none of those are why you are hurting you may have endometreosis. I'm not sure of the details, I just know that sex is painful when you have that disease.

um yes, it's normal to feel some pain. I had stitches from east to west and was afraid even after the 6 week mark. Take it slow and use lots of lubrication.

It could still be tender and sore. I recommend going slow and using Astroglide. Especially if you are BFing, because you could be kind of dry.
